I sigh as I wake up and lean over to grab my Amity necklace. The worn down leather cord feels familiar as I hook it around my neck and tighten the clasp. My mother gave it to me when I was a child it's the only thing that I have that was hers. She 'died' when I was just 5. Or so the Amity council told me. I don't believe them. Since there was no body I still believe she's out there. She was always doing something, always exploring and she almost found something. I just don't know what. That's one of the traits I've got from her, curiosity, Amity members are never curious. That's why she was going to leave, but she found out she was pregnant with me a matter of minutes before the choosing ceremony. She didn't have enough time to tell my dad so he transferred to Dauntless. I've never meet him.
I hear a knock on the door and jump up to grab it. My face relaxes in to a smile as I see Lillian and Felix. Their my best friends in the whole world.
"How can you be smiling? Aren't you nervous? I'm so nervous. It's only in a couple of weeks. What if," She looks at me with her brown eyes wide, "What if I get put in Dauntless?"
The idea is so lucidus I almost laugh out loud, But seeing her serious face I hold it in. I go over and put my arm around her and lead her towards my bed, Felix following.
"You'll never be put in Dauntless your Amity through and through, but even if the test did say you belong in Dauntless. Which it won't. It doesn't control where you go you still get to decide that."
She looks gratefully at me and smiles "I suppose your right,"
"I am." I say without hesitation then glance at Felix "Your quite today." I note.
He looks at me, flicking his brown hair out of his eyes before he replies, "yeah just thinking."
I flop back on my bed and sigh "Don't tell me your nervous too. Your going to drive yourselves, and me, crazy. it's two weeks away!"
"How can't you be nervous? This decides your whole future"
"No. I decide my future the test is just there to push me in the right direction."
Felix glances at the clock "We should get to breakfast. You coming?"
"yeah I'll just get dressed first then meet you down there"
I wave them on their way and turn back to my room. I grab my favourite outfit, a bright yellow dress with a thick brown platted belt and brown boots, push my curly blond hair behind my ear and skip after them.
As I go down to the breakfast hall I think about what fraction I might transfer to if I did transfer. Definitely not Candor, I lie way too easily, Not Erudite either, the thought of sitting in an office all day is not very inviting to me even if it is to learn more, I'll prefer to read a book in a tree. I don't really know if I would be good in Abnegation or not. When your in Amity your not presented with selfless or selfish tasks you just go with the flow. Dauntless has always been an option for me I think it would be fun to be able to jump on and off moving trains or jump off 10 story buildings. But then again I love being Amity all the bright colours the constant laughter and the freedom to do whatever you want all the time is defiantly a bonus.
I jump down the last stairs into the dining hall and find Felix, Lillian and a few of the other Amity teenagers at a table and go to join them. I grab an apple and sit down. I turn to Lucy "Don't tell me your nervous too or I'll go crazy."
She flicks her red hair over her shoulder and laughs "Of course not! I've decided I'm staying in Amity and there's nothing a stupid test can say to change my mind."
I grin and turn to look at Lillian "See Lil I told you there's nothing to worry about. The test means nothing. It's still up to you."
She rolls her eyes and looks across the table at Felix
"What do you want to do today?"
"Dunno" he replied "I was thinking about going to see Shane. He said he needed some help with the weeding today. Yay!" Felix says sarcastically "You guys want to come help?"
Lucy looks up "Nope I said I'll hang out with Ari today. Sorry." She grins
He looks at me and I shake my head. "No way! I'm going to the orchid today anyway."
The orchid is a huge forest of apple trees going on for miles. It follows the fence that surrounds all of the fractions until it gets to the edge of the Dauntless compound. The orchid stops there in a perfect line. Nothing that doesn't belong in Dauntless goes in there, even the trees seem to know that.
He Looks at Lil with his Best puppy dog face "Pleaseeeeeee?"
Lil looks at him and laughs "First you never have and never will be able to do a good puppy dog face so give it up. And Second you asked me third! I thought I meant more to you than that." She puts on a hurt face.
"Yes well you insulted my very good puppy dog face so you owe me."
"Fine I'll come. Layla sure your ok going alone?"
"Yes Lil I'm fine I always go alone."
Lucy looks at me and the intense look in her eyes makes me almost cringe away. "remember don't go over the fence."
I shudder and nod. The last person in Amity to try to get over the fence got caught and sent to be with the fractionless, everyone from all the fractions learn that its better to die than go live with the fractionless, and Amity is the most peaceful fraction of all. That's our motto Amity the Peaceful
I heard that someone from the Dauntless fraction tried to get over but was caught and was shot. I shudder at the thought.
"I won't." I promise. Then I get up to leave. "See you soon."
Hey hope you liked it this is the first Wattpad book I've written so sorry if its bad. It will get more interesting in the next chapter :-) so comment if you liked it. Or not I still want to know.
All the mottos are Amity the peaceful, Dauntless the brave, Candor the honest, Erudite the intelligent and Abnegation the selfless.
