The group seemed to be already working together without much communication with each other, they simply relied on their survival instincts as they brought down the zombies.
The doctor turn to shoot a zombie behind Boris, before the Russian in turn kicked one before it got too near to Schwaiger. Karl was sniping from the top, covering Herman as he fired away with his mp40. The sniper threw a grenade at the horde, their bodies blasting into pieces as blood spluttered all over the place and onto the officer. He merely wiped away the blood over his eyes and continued his relentless assault, with the doctor behind to cover the back.
The Russian was busy distracting the zombies and rounding them into a circle, making it easier for Karl to throw another grenade in. It wasn't long before the zombies rounded up on the doctor, attacking him mercilessly as he tried to run for safety. Herman swiftly turned around to put them down, before hearing a wailing scream coming from the fog.
"Suicide-Grenadier!" Karl yelled, signalling the others to get to safety. Herman picked up his gewehr and simply shot the mad zombie, it released a gurgled sound as it slumped, its grenade exploding causing the zombies in the radius to get caught in the impact.
"Guter Schuss, Herman!" Schwaiger called out from the top.
"Danke," Herman simply reply as he sniped off the others behind the fallen suicider.
Boris was handling the horde at their backs, he brought out his PPHS-41 and shot at the undead Germans, the Russian gun rattling as he pressed on the attack. It wasn't long before he got overwhelmed suddenly by an undead machine gunner, who appeared behind their truck.
"Boris!" Karl called, "Someone, get to him!"
Schwaiger got down from his position at the top of the tower and made his way to Boris's side.
"Get up! Schnell!" The doctor grabbed his hand as he pulled him up, bullets raining upon them as the gunner got nearer.
Herman turned towards the gunner, who started gunning him down.
"Scheiße!" Herman cursed as he struggled to get behind a fallen rubble.
"Everyone! Shoot its head!"
The group sniped at the massive zombie, bullet after bullet they hit his head, and its helmet fell off. The zombie groaned and grabbed its skull as the attack continued. Its head finally exploded as the last bullet hit home, the zombie's body falling to the ground with a dull thud.
The survivors did a silent cheer as they proceeded to snipe off the remaining zombies, now few in numbers after the bulk just a few minutes ago.
Karl brought down his rifle as the last zombie went down, and he heaved a sigh of relief.
"Haha! Ve did it!" The doctor patted the Russian's shoulders as they kept their weapons. Boris punched the doctor in the shoulder lightly in return.
Herman loaded a fresh new batch of magazine into his mp40 and gewehr, and strapped them back on after he was done. He then proceeded to walk away, seemingly going to another destination, just like them.
Karl noticed this, and he called out.
"Hey! Captain!"
Herman paused in his tracks and he turned to face the source of the voice.
"Where're you heading?"
"Away, if I stay he'll hunt me down and turn me like them," Herman responded.
Karl took a moment to process his words, before he spoke again.
"Would you like to join us then? We're getting out of Germany too,"
Karl thought he saw a glimpse of interest in the Captain's eyes.
"Really?" Herman seemed willing, even though he could sense doubt in his voice, "But, zhat is not a promise, am I right?"
Karl felt bad for him. Sadly it was true, sure they would probably get a few days away from Germany, before OSS instructs them to get back in there to stop the zombie menace,"
"Yeah," Karl responded, his voice softer as he spoke, "But hey think about it,"
Herman was still not moving from his spot.
"At least we go together as a team, someone to back you up,"
"Ja, look at how ve managed to beat back the zombies just now, it's like ve're already working together,"
Boris nodded in agreement as he listened.
Herman did a little eye roll as he walked back towards them.
"Fein, just make sure to stay away from...him, I don't vant to be caught a second time,"
Boris and Schwaiger both welcomed Herman into their ranks, while Karl simply smiled from his comment, both relieved and a little curious.
Well sure, they would stay real far from that man and his gruesome zombies, maybe.
The sniper snorted before turning to the radio, and signaled for the plane to pick them up.
For now, they have each other, they would fight, kill, and protect each other as a team.
Now that Karl thought about it, it wasn't such a bad idea after all, besides, who else besides them could he share his memories and jokes with?
They would have this team, and they would bring down Hitler's undead army down with him.
