We walked up to the opening of the castle.
"Oh, this place is homey." Yusuke said.
"So, I guess we're just going to walk right in." Kuwabara said.
"Any prize that's worth having usually requires a risk." Kurama said.
"I say we make em come out here and fight us up front like they're not a bunch of sissies." Kuwabara said.
"Are you that stupid?" I said shaking my head. "The Saint Beasts aren't just going to come out and fight." I said.
"Ha, you're sense of strategy is amazing." Hiei said sarcastically.
"Are you talkin to me runt boy!!" Kuwabara said.
"Let's go." Yusuke said stepping forward and we all followed behind.
"Stupid dwarf." Kuwabara muttered as we walked in.
As we were walking this bat thing came. "Welcome to Maze Castle." It said.
"Woah. It talked." Kuwabara said.
"Those who enter Maze Castle must be tried by the Gate of Betrayal." It said.
"What do you mean tried?" Yusuke asked, and the thing flew away. A lever appeared and the thing pulled it. It started to rumble around us.
"Urameshi." Kuwabara said. "Why did you have to ask?"
"Agh, the ceiling!!" Kurama said. The ceiling fell down on top on us and we held it up. We all grunted.
"Heavy isn't it? Senses in the corridor are most intelligent. In a complex assembly of gears adapts the ceilings weight precisely to the strength of its victims. Of course there is a catch. Enough leeway remains for one person to escape leaving their friends to be crushed by the weight." The bat thing said.
"Damn it." Yusuke grunted.
"You got that right." I said.
"But decisions must be made quickly not even the five of you combined can hold the ceiling for long. Insist on teamwork and everyone will be crushed. Only by turning against your friends will one of you be able to escape. Only the traditor among you deserves to enter Maze Castle. That's why its called the Gate of Betrayal you see." It said then flying away laughing evily.
"Boy I'd like to get my hands on that bat thing!" Kuwabara said.
"Stay focused on the weight or you'll kill us all!" Hiei said.
"Oh sure, blame me. I bet in holding up a lot more weight than you are." Kuwabara said.
"Just shut up and pay attention!" I said.
"Well, I'm not about to die for the sake of you worthless humans." Hiei said.
"Don't you even consider it Hiei." Kurama said.
"Yeah!! You're not the only demon here!!" I said.
"Man. I knew we should of played some trust games." Yusuke said.
"You say that now." I said.
"This has always been my favorite part of the trial. Watching the way you squirm just as your muscles begin to pop and tear under the ceiling's weight. But of course the best is your eyes. Seeing the years of thought turned to desperation, thinking, questioning yourself, how long can I hold this? Will I die this way? Will one friend betray us and escape while we're flatened? Or should I be the one?" It said.
"Just ignore that punk. Stick together. And if anybody tries to run I'll drag em back myself." Kuwabara said.
"Ha, I suppose you it'd be noble if we died as a team?" Hiei said.
