James
“It’s not nice to point.” A random girl, who was pretty cute I must admit, said to me. Her lips were pulled up into a playful smirk, her pale arm up and her finger pointing. I could tell she was nervous though, by the way her eyes kept darting around.
“But you’re pointing.” I told her stupidly. She rolled her gorgeous blue eyes.
“I know.” She said simply, before running off through the small courtyard, her long blue skirt flying behind her. It reminded me of the light blue baby blanket I had as a kid. I watched her jog over to her friends, who were laughing and clapping her five. A group of eighth graders looked at them and rolled their eyes, annoyed at the “little sixth graders.”
We hated the eighth graders, and they hated us. It was just how things were.
I felt someone jab their finger into my arm. I swiveled around, glaring at whoever it was, until I saw it was Michael. Grinning, I did the guy handshake (fist bump, hand hold bottom, hand hold top).
“Hey, who was that girl? She’s pretty cute.” He asked me, looking at her alongside me.
“I have absolutely no idea.” I muttered before walking off, talking and laughing with Michael.

Julie
I noticed James and his friend, Michael I think his name was, staring at me. I felt special, as it was still my first week of middle school, and I already had two guys staring at me.
“Ooo, Julie, they’re staring at you!” Jamie, my best friend said. She bumped her tan hip into my pale one, making me giggle and blush.
“Hush.” I shushed her, playing with the hem of my new peanuts shirt. I glanced over again to see them walking off, in their identical styles of cartoon t-shirt, cargo shorts, and Vans. James’s longish brown hair was swaying with every step he took. Suddenly, Jamie gasped.
“Oh, my, gosh! You like him don’t you?” I stared at my converse and shrugged, blushing again.
“Everyone get out a book, because we’re about to make history!” She yelled out. I yanked at her arm and shot her a dirty look. She grinned broadly, her perfect teeth seeming to glint in the bright sun. Her short blonde hair was shinning too, blinding me.
“Hey, let’s get out of the sun. Your hair is blinding me.” I said. She smiled sheepishly before bending down to pick up her overstuffed JanSport backpack. I copied her, and we walked over to where our friends had moved when we were talking. They were discussing, what else, boys.
