Niall’s POV:
I ran back to my house to change my clothes making sure that the covered my bandages before heading over to the train station at a mildly average pace. It’s still very painful to move after these bruises and cuts. Twats! I’d like to shoot them in the head if I had the choice. In London this would have been fine but up here this is a step too far, they have already interfered with my school life I’m seen as some kind of tough kid who has been in a fight.
I shook my head in irritation as I approached the Station. I bought a ticket to York and boarded the train. Ten minutes later I was leaving the York station with the majority of the train. They’re here for shopping I guess. I walked over to the alleyway where the fight was yesterday and started looking for any signs of where Paul might have gone.
“Ackhem.” I turned around to the sound of someone coughing. Please don’t be a police man. Please don’t be a police man. It was. Shot me now. What looks more suspicious that a teenager searching through bin bags and boxes in an alleyway?
“Hello Officer.” I said trying to seem as unthreatening as possible.
His face didn’t change it stayed in a straight line making him look like a robot, “What are you doing back here in this alleyway young man?”
“Errr… I wasn’t doing anything sir.”
“Really? Because its looks awful suspicious what you’re doing.” He said with a menacing glare.
I didn’t know how to get out of this. What was a plausible excuse for looking shady in an alleyway – sorry sir I’m looking for my friend who got beat up yesterday. He might me bleeding to death. Yeah that would go down a treat wouldn’t it? If this was London I could just threaten the police officers or beat them up a little it and walk off but up here I can’t let my presence be known.
I was about to start talking when a voice spoke from the entrance of the alley way, “Oh Peter there you are! Did you find my jacket in the bins?” He came walking up to me giving me a quick look to say go along with it.
“Sorry Officer is there a problem here?”
“Yes this young man was looking suspicious riffling through these bins so naturally I pulled him up on it.”
“Well there is no reason for suspicion Peter here is my nephew and I asked him to look through the bins to try and find my jacket that I threw away yesterday. It turns out I left my pocket watch in there.”
“Hmm well if you say so. You young man better not look suspicious around here again otherwise I’ll arrest you first and ask questions later. You got that?”
I nodded and the police officer and he walked off muttering to himself about the youth of today being nothing but misfits and trouble makers.
I turned to my ‘uncle’, “Hey thanks for saving me mate but I have to ask why you could have left me to get arrested like most other people would?”
He smiled at me, “Well firstly let me introduce myself, I’m Steve. You don’t know me but I know Paul. We used to be mates from school. I saw both of you the other day fighting. When the other people left Paul in the alley I went up to him and helped him up and to hospital. He asked me to keep an eye out over here in case you came back to look for him so that you could find him. Don’t worry I’m not going to judge you for being in a gang I never judged Paul when he joined.”
I smiled at him, “Thank you so much I didn’t have a clue where he could be.”
“Well he’s in the York Hospital about twenty streets that way.” He pointed away from the centre of town.
