~Brooklynn's POV~

I walk into the ballroom with Kellin and let out a sigh. I didn't have a date.

I look over the crowd of people and  I stand with Cassie as everyone dances. "If only someone would ask us to dance with them." I say and Cassie shrugs her shoulders.

"I don't even want to be here. Hopefully you find someone." Cassie says and I smile.

I stretch out my arms nervously and I see a male with brown eyes and brown eyes. From what the mask wasn't covering he seemed very handsome. He smiles at me and I blush.

I look away and I see Cassie notices my blush. "See someone you like?" Cassie asks and I shake my head and Cassie pushes me gently.

"I'm going to go to the restroom. Don't get yourself into trouble while I'm gone." I say and Cassie smiles.

I head towards the bathroom and I feel like someone is following me but I must be imagining things.

"Hello Brooklynn." A familiar voice says and I give a friendly smile to the girl.

"Hi Alyss." I say and fix my hair a little bit. "Enjoying the ball?"

"Yeah." Alyss says and gives me a forced smile. "Come here."

I walk over to Alyss and she fixes my hair better. "Thank you." I say and Alyss shrugs her shoulders.

I walk out of the bathroom and I see the handsome male again and I smile at him. "Hello." He says and he gives a little bow to me.

"Hello." I say nervously and give a small courtesy. Alyss walks out of the bathroom and gives me a little wink as she passes by.

"Can I have this dance?" The man asks and I nod my head.

"I'm not that good of a dancer." I say and he takes my hand, leading me to the dance floor.

"Don't worry." He says and he places a hand on my hip and I place my hand on his shoulder with a friendly smile. "What's your name?"

"My name is Brooklynn." I say and he pulls me closer to him. "W-What's your name?"

"My name is Cameron." He says and I don't think anything about it.

Cameron pulls me closer to him as we dance to the slow music.

~Cameron's POV~

I spin Brooklynn around and she lays her head on my chest. I hum the song into her ear and she closes her eyes.

"Are you having fun?" I ask and Brooklynn gives me a nervous smile and nods her head.

"Yes." Brooklynn says and I smile at her nervousness. "A-Are you?"

"Yes. I'm having a lot of fun." I say and the song ends and goes to another song. "Want to dance again?"

"Um..." She looks back at where she was standing and I feel nervous now. "Yes. I would love to."

"Is there someone I should be worried about?" I ask jokingly and she laughs.

"No. It's just my friend is all alone an I feel bad. But I don't see her anymore." She says and I spin her once more.

"Well hopefully she finds someone to dance with." I say and she nods.

"Hi Brooklynn." Says a familiar voice and I turn and see a girl in a mask. "So you found yourself a date?"

"Yes." Brooklynn says and the girl gives me a smile.

"Treat her kindly or you will get a limb chopped off." The girl says and I chuckle while Brooklynn blushes.

~Brooklynn's POV~

I blush at Barb's words and she dances away. I look up at Cameron and he seemed amused.

"Sorry about her." I say and Cameron shakes his head.

Cameron picks me up and spins me around as everyone else does it and I giggle. I make a goofy face and Cameron chuckles.

"I recognized your friend. I don't know where I've seen her though." He says and I shrug my shoulders. Where could he have met her before?

That is when it hit me and I move away from Cameron as quickly as possible. "I'm sorry but I can't dance with you anymore." I say quickly and I run away to the bathroom where I kick off my shoes and curl up in a chair.

I just danced with Cassie's ex. The one that cheated on her. How could I do that?

Cassie walks in and stares at me. "Are you okay Brooklynn?" Cassie asks with her smile fading into a worried look.

"Y-Yes. I'm fine." I say and Cassie sits down beside me. "Are you having fun?"

"Yes. I found someone to dance with. He's really handsome." Cassie says and I smile.

"Did you find out his name?" I ask and she nods her head.

"His name is Taylor." She says and I smile. "I saw you dancing with someone. What happened?"

"Oh...nothing." I lie and Cassie gives me a questioning look. "I found out he was a jerk so I left him there by himself." What would she think if she found out if I was dancing with Cameron?

"That's too bad." Cassie says and I shrug my shoulders. "Are you going to be fine in here alone? Or do you want me to stay?"

"I'm fine. Go have fun with your new friend." I say and Cassie smiles. "I'll be fine. Go dance to your hearts content. My feet are hurting anyways."

Cassie leaves the bathroom and I lay down on the couch in the bathroom. My mind wanders off to a memory of my childhood but I shake my head refusing to let it bother me. It wasn't going to hurt me anymore.

I hum to the music playing outside of the bathroom and reach into my bag to grab the book I carry around with me everywhere I go. I pull out The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks and open to the page I left off on.
