Jake English sighed as he boarded the plane. He sighed again when he got off it, and they asked for a passport. He had decided to expedition when he saw an ad online and called a number, and then won a trip with a famous television adventurer. Jake was ecstatic for the adventure, but he also felt terrible. He knew how Dirk was taking his absence.
They both needed this time. Dirk was too dependent and Jake was exhausted. He gets in a limo and looks out the window at the sights of Canada; not much to see. Their first stop was going to be the Niagara Falls. Jake had always wanted to see the Niagara falls.
He dropped his belongings off at the hotel and headed straight for the Falls to meet Travis Nightman, the face of Cliffhangers. He found him at the bottom of the Falls, by the water. The mist of the Falls, which seemed like so little, had soaked Travis's shirt and his hair. He shook his hair out of his faceand Jake's heart skipped a beat. It felt so slow-motion, he thought, and so much like television. Then he realized that there were cameras on him, and he smiled that awkward-nervous smile that small Englishmen often smile.
Travis looked over at him and smiled the television smile. Their smiles were mismatched to say the least, but the star wasn't dazed. "Here, we have our contest winner! Why don't you tell us your name, and a little about yourself?"
The mist of the Falls had soaked Jake, too, but it hadn't had quite the same effect. His hair was wet and in his face, and he pushed it to the side. He laughed, a little too high-pitched, and then cleared his throat. "I- uh, hello! I'm Jake English," Jake said with that charming accent of his, which cancelled out all of the awkward moments he'd just had, "I very much like going on dangerous expeditions, but my other passion is hand-to-hand combat!"
The producer raised his eyebrows to a cameraman. "The accent will raise our ratings," he mouthed and the cameraman nodded in agreement. Jake was going to be an adventuring superstar. And, he was going to forget all about Dirk.
