My heart raced and my breathing became shallow as I felt my father shake the ground with each step as he took closer to me. My Guardian Angel stood out like a red flag to an angry bull. I stood up protectively in front of him. "I'm supposed to be the one protecting you, remember?" he murmured in my ear. "Well this princess isn't getting saved. I'm changing the story." Avery chuckled behind me and stood powerfully next to me.
"Do you trust me?" he suddenly asked. I looked up to him curiously and nodded.
"Then close your eyes." I did as he told me and closed my eyes. His silky, warm, white wings enveloped us in it's embrace and gave me the strength to fight the man that had been torturing me ever since my mother was slaughtered. That was for a different time, thought. I needed to be smart and prepared. I lacked the second half of that equation.
Avery picked me up bridal style and cradled me in his arms. He took flight silently, not even causing the slightest breeze. He didn't loosen his grip on me until we were a safe distance away from the forest and safe inside my apartment. He laid me on the bed and I let his warm presence beside me lull me to a peaceful, blissful sleep.
When I woke, I realized Avery was gone from my side and I started to panic. He appeared around the corner of my small kitchen and smiled. "Miss me?" he grinned.
"No." I lied smoothly.
"Lier!" he said and leaned down to kiss me. I let him and his lips were as soft as silky wings and as passionate as my love for him. Did I really just say 'love'? I kissed him back with all that I had and slipped an arm around his neck as one of his hands cupped my cheek. Somehow our other hand found each others and intertwined.
I tilted my head back to deepen the kiss and I was filled with nothing but bliss. This man, this Angel before me, was my Angel and I knew now that I would never part from him, not even in death. We finally parted and gasped for air, but we never unlinked our hands.
With our heads resting against each other, I spoke something that said a thousand words, but yet was summed up by three words. I probably shouldn't have said it so soon but I didn't care. I said, "I love you." And to my amazement, he smiled and replied, "I love you too. Always have, always will."
