Ice Skating

The local ice rink was empty, no one was out skating today. It surprised me, I mean, it is summer. Why isn't anyone in here skating and enjoying the cool air and ice? Well, that didn't really matter much to me. L was standing near my side, I could feel his warmth radiating off him.

"It's been a long time since I've been out to skate.." L said to me quietly. I gazed at him for a moment while we walked up to the lady at the register.

"I would imagine, Ryuzaki," I say. "Maybe this will be the one thing I finally beat you at." His lips form into a small smile. L, smiling. A rare site to see. L hadn't smiled a lot in his life. Not to co-workers, 'friends', or anyone in a store or around him. The only time I'd see him smile, is if he was around me. L's laugh was joyous and attractive. I could remember making silly side jokes, or puns, with him. His gray eyes would light up whenever he laughed or giggled.

The girl at the register had long blonde hair, obviously dyed, and muddy brown eyes. Her curved yet petite body fit her well. You could tell she was smug, with a side smile plastered on that face.

"Welcome. Can I help you?" Holy. Crap. Even her voice was like frosting on a chocolate cupcake. I realized that she was talking towards L more than I. Slowly, I wrapped my arms around my body. Could you blame me for feeling so imperfect around her? She looked like a Queen, and I...I looked like a peasant.

"Hello," L started to say, but I interrupted.

"We would like to go skating. Could we have some skates, please?" I give her my most confident smile.

The girl twirled her golden locks and gave me a look. An obvious 'who the fuck do you think you are?' type of look. She rung up the register and I handed her twenty dollars.

"What sizes?"

"Ten for my friend Ryu, and (insert shoe size) for me. Could we have the figure skates?" I tapped on the table. L stood beside me, observing the room. I tried not to glance at him, but I couldn't help but stare at him a few times. He was handsome. I never really took note of that.

At last, the lady handed us our skates, and we walked over to a small table outside the arena area to put them on.

"You were jealous." L suddenly said to me, tying up his skates.

Quickly, without thinking, I defended myself a little too fast. "N-no, I wasn't. I was completely cool." I joked, L took note of the pun and another grin tugged on his pale lips. He shook his head and stood up. After lacing up my skates, I successfully walked out to the ice. With L behind me, I scooted out on the frozen water.

He didn't have to wait long until I took off. I skated around the rink at the fastest speed I could. My arms out, wide. Like I was some majestic bird. Here, I felt free. Unlike in the real world, here I felt at home. I skidded to a stop and twirled.

After I had stopped, I heard clapping. L clapped from behind me.

"Very well, Y/N. But let's see if you can beat me." And with that, the raven haired boy took off to the left. I stumbled for a moment, soon flying after him.

We chased each other for hours and hours. Showing each other tricks, and just plain having fun.

Finally, we both agreed it was time to go.
