The Day After

Sunlight shone through Stella's eyelids, causing them to flutter open. She groaned as she picked herself up from the hard surface. Dirt and grass hung from her pink hair, slightly falling into her eyes. After yawning and stretching, the girl picked herself up and took note of her dirty appearance. "Well, this just won't do" she muttered. Stella started to make her way back into the mansion when she froze, one hand touching the pocket where her handkerchief was supposed to be. She only felt air instead of the precious pieces of Ciel's ring. Picking up her pace, Stella ran into the mansion through the servant entrance. She found Finny and Mey-rin there, chattering to one another and eating breakfast. They both stopped at the sight of the dirty girl.

"Oh my! What's 'appened to you?" Mey-Rin exclaimed, rushing over to Stella. "I fell asleep outside. Never mind that, have either of you seen the pieces of Ciel's ring? I found them last night but they're gone" Stella asked. Finny and Mey-Rin glanced at each other. "No, we 'avent seen them" Mey-Rin admitted. Finny handed a wet rag to Stella, which she accepted and started to wipe at her face. Her eyes noticeably fell at the news. "I see... Well, thank you. I will go wash up now" she slightly bowed in thanks to the two then exited the kitchen area.

Finny and Mey-Rin slowly sat back down, watching the pink haired girl disappear. "So, that's where she disappeared to last night. Sebastian seemed worried when he couldn't find her," Finny muttered, slowly finishing his breakfast. Bardroy appeared a few minutes later, scratching his head. "'Ey. What's going on with Stella?" he asked, plopping down in a chair. "She was looking for the pieces of ring our young master threw out of the window yesterday, I believe." Finny said. The three servants just looked at each other and shrugged before finishing their breakfast and going to start their duties for the day.

Stella went to the washroom to clean herself before Sebastian could spot her. Stella knew he wouldn't fair well to seeing a Phantomhive maid covered in filth. She gathered the water in a bucket and put it next to the bathtub. The water was cold but it was common, especially to Stella, who saw even getting to cleanse herself as a privilege. Looking at her surroundings as she started to undress, Stella thought about how her situation has changed. One moment she was trying to survive in the streets and the next, Sebastian came down as her guardian angel to swoop her away into a fantasy-like land that she never thought she'd be in. As she poured the water into the tub and settled down into it, Stella reminisced on her days since she's been with the Phantomhive heir and his servants.

Finny was an energetic ball of happiness. He always seemed to love being outdoors. Him dancing with Stella at the ball showed that he was as sweet as can be. Mey-Rin was clumsy, always breaking something if Sebastian wasn't there to catch her. She worked hard though, when she wasn't fawning over the butler. Bard acted tough but everyone could see that he had soft spots. He wasn't the best in the kitchen but he tried his hardest. They were all very kind to the girl, Sebastian more so than the others. Stella couldn't put her finger on it, but she felt some connection to the butler. It was as if he knew more about her than she did him. As Stella wiped the rag over her skin, her thoughts traveled to the young heir of the manor she now lives in. Ciel was different than any other boy her age was. He always held so much sadness to himself. He didn't smile or tease like the other boys she knew did. He was quite serious and mature, most times. He was a mystery to Stella. She couldn't figure him out but she desperately wanted to. She wanted to see more than the surface of Ciel Phantomhive.

Her thoughts were broken by a knock on the washroom door. Stella's hands fell from trying to comb through her hair as an attempt to get the dirt out of it. "Yes?" she called out.

Flipping open my pocket watch, I noticed how it was past the servant's breakfast time and how everyone is accounted for except for Stella. Sighing, I shut the pocket watch and put it back in my coat pocket before going to the spot outside where I found her earlier. It occured to me at the time that I should have carried her inside but as I was about to, the young master called for me. I set her down with every intention to return for her and before I left her, I noticed something in her pocket. I took out the small handkerchief to find remnants of the masters ring that Lady Elizabeth crushed. Smirking, I brushed my sister's hair out of her face to see a peaceful smile resting on her lips. "You continue to surprise me" I whispered before going to the young master. After returning the ring to him in perfect shape, I had to get right to the duties for the day.
