Mae POV
The next morning I received the most unexpectedly shocking text from my ex-girlfriends best friend. 'Hi Mae, Kiki is in hospital, she is in a critical condition. Please get here urgently!' My emotional state had suddenly dropped, feeling as though my heart had fallen out of my body, afraid of what may of happened to my ex.
''Your friend Kiki was drink driving last night and had crashed into a tree at high speeds. We are doing everything we can but it is possible that she may not survive. I'm sorry ma'am,'' the nurse informed me.
It was the most depressing news that I had ever received in my entire life. Tears fell down my cheeks like a heavy rainfall, and my whole body could barely keep itself up.
I realised at that moment that I was the reason why she intoxicated herself so much with alcohol. If it wasn't for my pathetic actions, this would of never happened.''I'm so sorry for everything Kiki, it's my fault.'' I apologised desperately to her, pouring my heart and tears as I watched her deep asleep with tubes and other things connected to her body in order to keep her alive. ''I love you so much, you're the one I want to marry,'' I said to her as I kissed her forehead and held her hand.
After spending most of my day at the hospital with Kiki, I went back to Jennifer's house and spend the rest of the day there filled with immense worry and sadness for Kiki.
It was almost midnight and I was about to go to bed with Jennifer until I heard my phone ring. ''Hello?'' I answered. ''Hi Mae, this is Kiki's best friend, Kiki didn't survive her critical condition, she passed away.'' I could hear her best friends tears fall uncontrollably and her voice quiver as she told me. I dropped the phone without a response, my whole body had given up on me once again, knowing I was the reason, knowing that if I didn't cheat on her and find someone else, this would of never happened.
''Goodbye Kiki, I love you and I always will. I'm sorry for everything I have caused you.''
