"Mom, dad? Are you there?" He whimpered, halfheartedly pawing at the boulder.
"They cannot hear you in here." Petal sighed. "Before the boulder is removed, we have to finish our training. You must learn to speak the language of the cat. It will not move until you agree to train with me, and except this fate.
"But-"
"No cuts, no buts, no coconuts!" Petal exclaimed.
"What are cow-co-nuts?" Flame wondered.
"Nevermind..." Petal sighed. "We begin training now!"
For the next two moons, they trained. Flame struggled, but Petal was a very patient fox. She worked with him to speak the basics, and said he would learn more someday. By the end of the second moon, Flame had it mastered.
"Mrroooww, mow meow!" He said.
"Good, very good." Petal said. "Now, go to the Boulder." Flame's eyes widened.
"You mean...?"
Petal chuckled slightly, and turned away. Flame ran to the entrance, where the boulder was. Sure enough, the boulder had vanished. He squinted at the bright sunlight. Slowly, he stepped out, cherishing every moment. Soon, he saw his friends frantically rushing towards him.
"Flame!" Gem, and Pine said together. "Where's my family?" Flame demanded immediately. They went silent, and rigid.
"Well????" Flame said. His heart sank. Was this what he feared..? He shook his head. No, it couldn't be...
"Your parents... Right... Well... Umm... Come back to the den, and we'll tell you a story. "Flame frowned.
"Ok" he said reluctantly. He slowly followed them, his lips pursed.
At the den, there was only a few nests left, as most of the apprentices had moved on to become either Fighters, Gatherers, or even Territory Finders. There was 4 nests left, including their own. Pine started to speak.
