Chapter 8
‘I did not appreciate you getting Ace to give me my wedges back,’ it was lunch time and Georgia was moaning about the weekend, ‘what are with you two?’
‘Are you two... going out?’ Georgia sat down at one of the tables.
‘No.’ My voice sounded high-pitched.
Ace spotted us and strolled over, ‘hey girls.’
‘Hi Ace,’ Georgia replied in a flirty voice, ‘how was your weekend?’
I felt jealousy burn through me. I glared at the floor to hide it. Was Georgia trying to wind me up on purpose or did she like him?
She’s trying to wind you up, Ace told me, you wouldn’t be jealous now, would you?
No! I insisted as Ace took hold of my hand.
‘I knew it!’ Georgia pointed a finger at me. ‘I told you! You told me “no” – you lied to me!’
I’ll wait for you after school then we can go to the dynasty together. I could sense Ace’s smile behind the word “together”.
‘Erm... I’ve got psychology, so I’ll see you tomorrow.’ I hugged Georgia and placed my bag on my shoulder.
‘What? I thought we could hang out later- Oh, wait... never mind.’ Georgia smiled to herself as if she was a genius.
Ace was waiting in the car park for me, after psychology. He looked so... heavenly leaning against his car.
‘Hey,’ Ace kissed me on the forehead, ‘ready to go?’
‘It’s now or never.’ I shrugged.
When we arrived everyone was waiting for us. They took us into the ELEMENTS department and we went into one of the WATER classrooms.
‘Now, Ryvre,’ Arella said, ‘this is one of the classes that you will have. You will also have ice class, angel studies – which includes information about attacking and blocking – and you will have private lessons with whom you may choose.’
‘Ace, you will also be in this department for fire class.’ Sonny informed him. ‘You will be taking fire class, healing class, angel studies and you can now practise combat and drills in your private lessons.’
‘For now we want to see what you can do, Ryvre.’ Arella smiled at me. I had a feeling it was going to be painful.
‘Question: how do I attack with my power? All I can do is freeze people’s thoughts.’ I pointed out.
‘You managed to hurt my head when you froze my thought so much that it shattered. If it wasn’t for the fact that my power is to do with the mind, I would have forgotten my thought.’ Hugh argued.
‘Mum; dad?’ A girl, younger than me by roughly three years, walked into the room. ‘What’s going on?’
‘Aura, this is Ryvre – you’re older sister.’ Arella said, straight to the point. ‘Remember how we said that she was taken and missing? She just showed up yesterday with Randy’s family.’
All of a sudden, I felt really unwelcome. A draft fell on me and I shivered. Ace put his arm around me, sensing I was nervous.
It’s okay. Ace comforted me.
I don’t think she likes me. I replied.
You’ve got that right, Aura shot me a sharp glare, you think you can just waltz in here without hurting anyone... If you hurt them, I will personally make your life a nightmare!
