Damn, spirit, back at it again with the annoying voice!
It's a good thing nobody noticed her whisper anything to herself. Carla bit her lip and took out the map her sister drew for her. It didn't help her much, as Marina wrote the directions hurriedly with arrows pointing to phrases like a cycle explained in a science subject.
She quickly shoved the map back in her pocket. She walked briskly down the hallway until she came across an entrance to a staircase. She walked closer to the entrance and sighed in relief. Sophomore hall was just a floor ahead. Carla climbed the stairs.
But as soon as she reached the entrance to sophomore hall, she was met with exhaustion. Carla hated stairs. She walked slowly when she entered the hall. Students chattered and walked about. The walls were lined with lockers.
Carla walked and walked. She glanced at her left and right a few times just to catch the classroom she was assigned to: classroom 2-C. She passed by room 2-A already. She then saw that 2-C was diagonally across 2-A. She opened the door and entered the room.
There were four other students in the room—two girls and two boys. The girls were holding on to their own handheld consoles—Nintendo DS, respectively. Carla took a closer look at the girls. They both had a light tan skin tone. They shared the same dark brown eyes. But the very things that set them apart from each other was their hair length and the color of their DS.
One of the girls had a light pink console, and the other had red. One of them sported a pixie cut, and the other wore her hair in a low ponytail.
"Kilra," the short-haired girl said. "I'm telling you for the last time, quit using Action Replay to get a shiny! It's unfair!"
"Can't help it if I want to." The long-haired girl smiled. It then dawned on Carla that these girls are twin sisters.
She then looked at the number of chairs in her classroom. Why were there eleven chairs? Is Class 2-C considered the class of the least number of students for every school year?
Who am I kidding? Even Marina ended up in this section.
Carla found a vacant desk and chair. She took her backpack off and hung it on the hook at the side of her table. She sat down and looked outside. Why did she hear a voice the moment she set foot on the school grounds? Why is she suddenly feeling so uneasy right now?
"Hey." Carla heard a male voice say. This time the voice was masculine—and more human.
She looked to her right and saw a boy wearing a white shirt, denim jeans, and black Vans. He had a scar on his cheek. She decided not to bring it up.
"Hi," Carla said quietly. "I'm Carla Xeraphina."
"I'm Warren Derek Gaster." The boy introduced himself. "Are you new?"
"Yes." Carla answered. "What about you?"
"No, I'm not." He said. "I've been here for a year now."She nodded her head in response. This was her way of saying, "I see."
"Let me tell you about the people here." Warren began. "You see those two girls playing Pokémon over there? They're twins. They both use magic, too."
"The girl with a pixie cut is Sucre. She's a Pyrokinetic—meaning she can manipulate fire and move with the element as well."
"The girl with the ponytail is Kilra. She's a Sylph Dreamer—the one who heals with elemental magic. On top of that, she can control water as well—which pretty much contrasts her to Sucre."
"Besides their physical appearance and magic, the difference between them is how they acquired their powers. Sucre is a natural-born Caster, but Kilra is a Wizard."
