< I changed the ending if this chapter. >
I awoke to the sound of heavy rains pouring outside the cave. It had to of been morning but the dark overcasting clouds blocked out the sun. The cold air from the rains drifted into my cave and made me aware of how cold I was. There was a couple sticks on the far wall I thought to use for fire, but somehow they were wet, soaked really. How could wood this far in be wet? It was weird. I sighed and sat back down, I would just have to wait for the rain to stop and then I could go try to find some food and wood for a fire. I closed my eyes and tried to relax but the moment I did, light flickered behind my eye lids and my skin felt warm.
I opened my eyelids to see a animal, a fox run along the walls of my cave. Only I wasn't a real fox, it was water? Fire? It had the outer appearance and warmth of a fire but through that there was a reflective blueish clear quality to it. I watched in amazement as it danced in front of me, enjoying the warmth it emitted. It then turned and left through the exit of the cave. I followed after, wanting to know where it's origin was. It walked outside, it's fire unaffected by the pouring rain.
A movement near the opening of the cave caught my attention. It was a hand. With every flick the hand made, the fox obeyed. When the hand went flat, the fox vanished into the forest. the only other time I'd seen something like that was Illias showing me his first spell.
"I know you're there, Illias." The hand withdrew and footsteps took off in the other direction, branched cracking underfoot. I crawled through the opening of the cave, ignoring the scrapes that appeared on my knees, and chased after him. I was betrayed by him, he abandoned me and yet I still wanted to see him. I ran as fast as I could but I couldn't catch up to him, there was no way I could. But, I did know where to find him. The cave we had originally stayed at, his stuff was probably still there.
I ran back to the cave to find it empty. There was a fire going and food cooking over it. I sat next to fire and took one of the sticks with meat on them. I only then acknowledged how hungry I was for I ate the whole thing in no less than two bites. I laid down on my back and let the fire warm me and dry my clothes. Sleep tugged at me again.
I woke up sometime later. The fire was low and dying. I was about to get up to put in more wood when I heard faint breathing next to me.
Illias.
He had come back. In that moment I wanted to wake him, talk to him. But he looked badly injured.
