Chap. 11 Losing You

Marinas POV

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and rays of sunlight streaming through the curtains and hitting my face. I felt a warmth radiating from beside me and I couldn't help but snuggle in closer to steal it's heat. I felt an iron tight grip around my waist as if the thing thought I would move an inch. I peeped up through my hair and saw Darius sleeping peacefully. His arm was holding me tightly to his body. He looked......content. He didn't look like the monster that was described to me when I was younger.

I quietly turned towards him more so I was forwardly facing him and brought one of my hands up and lightly brushed my fingers against his skin. His lips turned up into a little smile and he sighed. I traced the line of his jaw, his eyebrows, his cheekbones, his lips and then I carried down to his adamsapple. I retreated back up to his nose when I found two piercing blue orbs staring back at me with so much adoration, love and a hint of guilt.

"How long have you been awake?" I whispered, while still brushing my fingers along his jawline. I didn't want to look him in the eyes.
He shuddered beneath my touch. It was nice to know I had an effect on him.
"My beautiful Marina, you are the only person who could have any effect on me; even if I was dead I would still be able to feel your warm touch and know it was you."

I blushed. And when I say blush I mean I turned tomato red. That was the most meaningful thing a person has ever said to me. I slipped back down beside Darius and hid my face between his neck. He chucked lightly but I could still feel the vibrations from his body. Boom. I think I'm pregnant from just hearing his laugh. "You can't hide from me kitten, because no matter what I'll always find you."

"Hypothetically what if I don't want to be found?

Darius lunged off the bed faster than you could say 'Gonzalez'. He turned around abruptly and I noticed his eyes were pitch black. Shit. Wrong move Marina.

"YOUR MINE MARINA, NO ONE ELSES, ONLY MINE, I CANT LOSE YOU...I can't go through it, not again"
Towards the end his voice cracked and I once again witnessed the vulnerable Alpha King.

"Darius I-I'm not going anywhere I promise, I'm yours!" I said to reassure him and calm Shannon.

But I couldn't help but think about the word he whispered, 'Again'
The words reverberated inside my head.
When did he ever lose me? I only met him less than a week ago and I was always with him. He must be thinking of someone else.......
'I can't go through it, not again..."

Darius POV

I immediately regretted my choice of words the moment I uttered them. I could feel her confusion and then nothing. She blocked me out. She cut off her link with me. I was gonna question her further when my sister barged through the door without even knocking. Rude much?

"Eeekkk yes you're finally awake! Mom and Aunt Gillian want to see you both in the dining room"
I nodded and turned to look at Marina but she already brushed past me out the door. She didn't even glance in my direction. I ran down the stairs after her but I was too late to speak to her privately. She was hugging my mom and aunt in a tight embrace. I smiled widely. My mom and aunt loved her to bits, I could tell. During breakfast, mom kept telling me how beautiful Marina was and how lucky I was to have found a mate so perfect. And I knew I was lucky, I'm so unbelievably lucky that I found my mate and when I was about to hurt her, she willingly forgave me. She has a kind heart.
She's going to be a great Luna.

While all the while my Marina was chatting with my aunt and Sofia but never with me. Never once did she acknowledge my presence. I didn't even catch her trying to steal a glance. It's like she completely zoned out.

Marina's POV

After what Darius said upstairs in his room I knew what had happened. I couldn't be near him at that time so I was overjoyed when Sofia rescued me. I cut off my mindlink with him and I cut him off from me. I sped down the stairs and was greeted by his Mom and Aunt. They were lovely people. They reminded me of my family. They told me how I was part of the family now and that they are so happy they found their second daughter. After that I shut down. My father taught me how to completely zone out while in any situation and making it seem you're still interested in what's happening. I laughed every time i was told by myself and I nodded when I needed to.

When breakfast was finished I politely excused myself and went to my old room. The one I had when I was first brought here. I quickly locked the door behind me and turned around to look at the scope of the room. It was very quirky, it had a sea theme. There was beautiful shell frames hanging on the walls but no photos. The bed was absolutely huge, enough to fit ten people. I spotted a rack of books beside the bedside table and decided to read curled up in bed.

The book was indescribable. I can't fathom into words how amazing it was. 'The Shadow of The Wind' I even finished the book. I'm not sure how long I'd been reading but I felt tired and by the looks of it, it was getting pretty dark. I wonder where Darius is?

I felt my head hit the pillow and then everything became a blur.

My eyes peeled open at the sound of the rain hitting the window. A storm was on its way. I loved it. I was always fascinated by thunder and lightning. I yawned and stretched before turning on the bedside lamp. I unknowingly scanned the room ( just a habit) but stopped when I saw a figure hiding in the shadows. I was shaking with fear. Although I couldn't decipher their appearance I could just see the whites of their eyes. If looks could kill huh.

I breathed a sigh of relief when the person stepped out of the shadows. It was Darius. I genuinely thought he had found me.
"Why are you hiding kitten? I told you I would always find you!" Darius said through gritted teeth as he stalked towards me. I gulped.
"I came in to r-relaxe."
"Tell me the truth Marina, why are you avoiding me?" This time I could sense the hurt in his voice.

"I just needed some space."
"Why? Why don't you want to be around me? I thought we were okay?! You are my mate!"

"You said this morning you couldn't go through it again. Who did you lose?"

Darius was shocked at my question. I could see the pain in his eyes tormenting him. But what I felt was ten times worse. There was someone else.
His next words felt like a stab to my heart, I had been played for a fool, a stupid stupid fool.

"She was my wife...."

Ooohhhh plot twist hahaha! Anyway just to let you know this will be the last chapter maybe for 2-3 weeks so that's why it's longer. I have exams coming up but once they are finished I'll write an even longer chapter! ;)
