I waited patiently in the car. I looked off at one of the cars in the distance. Spray painted on the car "Atlanta not safe" and the one next to it said "Turn around".
I see my dad running to the car he jumps in a pulls off in the opposite direction.
"Atlanta isn't safe neither is the roads. We have to go home."
"We can't go home dad we can't!" I scream
"quiet asp" my sister says "we have to stay quiet.. noise attracts them"
"whatever lets just die here" I roll my eyes. We pull back into the drive way and I run inside and and gather all of our food into one area. My dad nails wooden boards to the doors and windows and pin blankets to anywhere that lets light in.
*Flashback ends*
That's when life was easier I had to admit. Although I was filled with fear and had no where to go. It still was easier then where I am now. I push the sweaty hair off my forehead and climbed the tree to the highest branch. My dad died the same way everyone else does. But he died protecting me and my sister. Sasha's gone too rodders got her the same way they got dad. Me and Brooke are the last one left. I mean there probably was people but I only had Brooke. I tried to look for a house to stay for the night while she looked for food. A Rodder scratched at the tree trunk below me which caught my attention. I kissed my fingers and held it up to the sky before I shot my arrow right into the top of its head. Rodders are the infected people, the people that would end your life with either a bite or even a scratch but they still had a life before this happened to them. I see a shack down the road seemed to be about 5 minutes away. I climbed down and walked to the creek to get Brooke and our stuff.
"Let's go there's a house 5 minutes up the road we can sleep safely for the night" I pick up my bag and turn towards her and she nods slowly and stands up tucking her knife in her waist band of her leggings. We walk up the road and reach the house. It's already boarded up on the Windows but the door is wide open. I grab my knife and walk in and Brooke and I split up and clear the house. Which isn't very big, there was a bedroom, a living room, bathroom, and kitchen.
"All clear" Brooke says while I walk out of the room. Brooke's tough, I'll have to admit. But after our dad died she's been very quiet. I push the couch against the door and tie a rope from the door knob to a chair arm and put my bag on top. I start searching for food in the cabinets, i walk up to the last cabinet and open it unfaithful there would be anything worth grabbing. I open it up and there were 3 boxes of cereal and 2 candy bars and 6 full water bottles. On the Frosted Flakes box there was note that read.
"I hope you survive better then I did."
I sigh I wish the world wasn't so fucked up.
"Dinner, it's your favorite" I chuckle and slide her coco puffs and a water. She laughs joining me at the small table. We eat our food talking about old memories and how life used to be before all this happened.Authors note:
Girl at top is Brooke or who I imagine Brooke as
