A school dance? How's that going to help my Student Council President campaign? Running against Courtney and Heather puts me at a major disadvantage. Based on my calculations, the more popular candidates win over the student body. Both Courtney and Heather are on the dance committee. Being followed around by Max doesn't help my case either. Max is so utterly unbearable. For some reason he believes he's superior. I need to attempt to find other people to befriend. As I'm walking through the hallway, I bump into some boy and his book flies out of his hands. I bend over to retrieve the book and find that it belongs to none other than Noah. Perfect! Noah is intelligent and sarcastic! Not to mention the fact that he's cute...
"Here," I say handing him the book. It just so happens to be one of my favorites!
"Yeah, whatever. Thanks." he replies flatly, taking the book.
"Oh and Noah."
"What?" he asks, somewhat agitated.
"Well, I just thought, considering you and I's superior intellect, that maybe you'd assist me on my campaign." I hope he at least considers this.
"Scarlett, what exactly are you asking me?" Noah says, eyebrow raised. I misjudged how hard this was actually going to be. Maybe I should head in a different direction...
"Well, maybe we could get to know each other..." I feel like I may have said that wrong...
"I'm not really in the mood for a girlfriend right now," says Noah turning away to leave.
I grab his arm, forcing him to look at me.
"What about just a friend? It's clear by our book preferences we'd have something to discuss."
"You like Nowhere's Somewhere?" he asks, holding up his book.
"Of course! Science Fiction is my favorite genre!"
"Mine too. Alright, Red, maybe I can agree. I guess I'll see you at lunch." With that Noah walks away. There's this weird feeling inside me, but I just ignore it. I head to my locker and gather what I need for my next course along with Nowhere's Somewhere. It's one of my favorite book series! I can't believe Noah likes it too! Max hasn't even heard of the series. Frankly, I don't think he even reads. I mean he could at the very least pick up a graphic novel, couldn't he?
"Scarlett! I have come up with another ingenious diabolical plan!" exclaims Max, running up to me. Ugh! I can't get away from this inferior being!
"Don't care in the slightest," I answer, slamming my locker shut, adjusting my glasses, and walking away at a quickened pace.
"Wait, I need an evil henchwoman to assist me!" he continues in his nasally voice. Henchwoman? Seriously?
"Well I'm sure there's someone out there who'd love to!" I shout, taking a sharp turn to enter the girl's restroom. He can't follow me in there, I think. Near the large mirror in the corner of the bathroom I lean against the wall and slump down to the floor. Right now I don't even take into consideration the unsanitary conditions, but whatever. It's a relief to be rid of him.
"Scarlett?" I hear a familiar voice say. I look up to see none other than Heather. "What are you doing?"
"Attempting to hide from the annoying and unbearable life form named Max..." I huff.
"Try to make you assist him with one of his 'diabolical' plans again?" she asks, making air quotes.
"Always," I reply with a laugh. Only Heather understands me, even though she's my competition for Student Council President.
"Well, come on," says Heather, lending me a hand. "You and I only have to endure three more classes before lunch where we can figure out what to do with that pathetic excuse for a human being..." We both laugh and walk out of the bathroom. At least Heather can help me be rid of Max, maybe even for good!
