Sydney
Stacy leaves me with Luke, Maddie and Peter. Maddie jumps in bed and give me a hug.
“Sleeping beauty finally wakes up” Luke laughs at me. I tell them about the therapy I need to get after the doctors declare me fit. Luke frankly tells me that he’s mad at me for keeping it a secret but will forgive me. Peter sits beside me and grabs my hand firmly.
“I’m happy you’re doing okay” I can feel my tears trying to fall
“Thank you for everything, dad” he squeezes my hand and kissed my forehead. They gave me a family hug before leaving.
Jake
I arrive on time. I see dad just leaving her room.
“She’s all yours, but call me tomorrow” he says. He starts to leave but I call him back.
“When did you know?” I ask
“I watched you when you were ten. you taught her how to throw a ball. You held her hand and introduced her to me as your best friend.” I smile as I remember that time just like yesterday. When she smiled at me I knew she was the one.
“I knew she felt the same way when she stared right through me with that cute frown and told me she wasn’t just your friend but your best friend” I laugh at him because that was my favorite memory.
“Take care of her, son” dad grabs my shoulders in a firm grip
“I will” I promise.
Sydney
Jake arrives carrying to many bags.
“What’s all that?” I ask. He doesn’t answer me, he just smiles.
He wheels the food tray closer to me and starts to unload the contents of the brown bags. Bowl of soup, tea, bottles of juice and water, deli sandwich, The Shack’s cheeseburger with onion rings, junk food and my favorite cupcakes. Whoa! He bought all of these?
The door opens and doctor penny and nurse molly enters.
“What’s all that?” nurse molly asks Jake
“She can’t eat? She’s been asleep for more than a week, she needs to eat” he frowns at her. I covered my mouth from laughing but then joined doctor penny.
“She can eat. What nurse molly means is that’s just too much food for Sydney” she explains to Jake. I bite my lip to avoid laughing but my giggle escapes. Jake turns to me and smiles.
“Trust me she eats more than that” he smirks at me. I slap his arm playfully. He eats the sandwich while doctor penny does my check up.
Jake
After Sydney’s check up, the doctor schedules her for tomorrow’s therapy. I text dad to let him know about the schedule. After I help her finish her meal I sit beside her.
“I brought you something” I tell her.
“What is it?” her eyes widen in excitement. She just loves surprises. I pass her my football.
