HERMIONE’S POINT OF VIEW
As I walked into the Great Hall for dinner, I saw Malfoy and Ron walking back with Professor McGonagall. I felt sooo bad. This was pretty much my fault. Professor McGonagall’s voice, or should I say the Headmistress, broke into my thoughts.
‘From this year on, we will be promoting House unity, so I will like you to sit, instead of in Houses, in your Year levels instead.’
There was an outbreak of whispers and Malfoy, who I have to say, had the gut to do so, shouted, ‘What kind of Headmistress are you? Making new rules now that you’re in charge, huh?’
Professor McGonagall did not even spare him a glance, but said in a clipped voice, ‘Those who don’t want to do so can go sit outside in the corridor. While you’re all sitting down, I also have a few announcements to make after we Sort.’
I weaved my way in between the bustle of students, and sat myself between Ron (who ignored me) and Harry, while the Sorting went on. Gryffindor House earned a couple of brawny looking boys, and a mouse- haired girl, who timidly sat on the very edge of a bench.
Then came the announcements.
‘Today, I will like to announce the Head Boy and Girl. The Prefects would have been sent letters, but to become Head Boy and Girl is a very big achievement and I will like to congratulate these two students….’
The Great Hall became utterly silent. Everyone seemed to breathe as one.
‘…..Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger.’
There was a shriek, and seemingly the whole of Gryffindor House was engulfing me, amid shouts of ‘Congratulations’ and groans of disappointment. Malfoy, who was sitting by his cronies, was white, sitting stock still. I held by a laugh. Who would have thought Professor McGonagall would have chosen Malfoy as Head Boy? Obviously not himself.
‘Students! I know this is exciting, but I would like to have your attention so I can finish my announcement. The Head Boy and Girl will reside in their private quarters opposite the Gryffindor Tower, but I would like to see no, ahem, kerfuffle coming from our role models, understand?’
Nothing seemed to pass through my oxygen- deprived mind but the fact that I had to share living quarters with Malfoy.
What the hell was going on?
