It is August 21, 2017. 3 days before the apocalypse occurs. Everyone in Trenton New Jersey is getting prepared. Me? I'm just sitting here listening to One Direction. Denying that this could actually happen. Mum and dad work for the government so they strongly believe this will happen. We have all kinds of guns, grenades, zombie repellant galore around the house. Strange right? My family is not normal I tell ya. You probably wonder why I say mum? Well, I'm from Doncaster, UK. We moved to the States when I was 11. So here I am, Hayley Howard, 16. All I know is I'm waiting for this 'tragedy' to actually happen.
I quickly walk to the living room to my mum and dad packing food and clothes. Why do I have to have the not so normal parents. WHY? I take a seat on the couch opposite side of them and cross my legs and roll my eyes.
"It's not going to happen you know." I pointed out. As usual, they don't bother look at me.
"Oh but it will." My father said, still gathering supplies.
I turn on the tv. I cant stand watching these two fools pack for something that will never happen.
The infection has nearly swiped out West Virginia and moving east. We strongly believe that it will soon hit New Jersey in less than 24 hours. I hope you're prepared for what's about to happen.
God is there any normal people here? Isn't it supposed to be kids my age that makes up that sort of shit? I can't stay in this house any longer. I grabbed my iPod and phone and head towards the door.
"Honey where're you going?" Mum asked. Shit.
"For a walk I won't be long." I reply and walk out the door.
I walked around the neighborhood a few times. I look around and there's no kids outside. All silence. Weird. Normally little Katie is riding her tricycle around this time. I shrug my shoulders and continue to walk.
After a good ten minutes the sirens went off. Probably a test I presume. Oh well. I walk back to the house and walk inside. Mum and dad were running and grabbing everything and putting it in the car.
"What's going on mum?" I asked.
She pauses without saying a word. I begun to get worried as she started shaking.
"Mum?" I ask.
Still no answer.
"MUM!" I scream.
I get her attention and she looks at me. She literally looked scared as a cat.
"It's happening."
