Oh.

Maybe my mum and dad aren't crazy. Maybe it's me! Oh my god.

"What do I do?" I ask my mum, shaking with fear.

"Me and your dad have to meet the president in 15 minutes. And unfortunately, you just have to find your way to shelter." My mum replied, looking down as if she's about to cry.

"Oh yes. A sixteen year old can definitely survive out in THIS!" I say, pointing angrily out the window.

"Honey, why do you think we made you take archery all these years?"

"To make people think I'm a nerd." I mutter, hopefully she didn't hear me.

"For this exact reason Hayley. Look out there! Do you believe it now? Huh?!" She screamed. I stood in silence.

She grips my chin tightly so I face her.

"Answer me when I'm talking to you young lady!"

"Y-es." I reply. She let's go and continues to pack.

I run upstairs to my room and lay on my bed bursting into tears. This may be the last time I actually have a bed.

Get up Hayley. You can do this. Stop being a coward and be a big girl and prepare for what's about to happen. Sitting here crying like a baby isn't going to get you far.

I jump off the bed and head downstairs. Mum and dad already left me. I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared. I head to the kitchen and notice a note on the table. Oh so they had time to write me a note but they didn't have the time to say goodbye? Oh okay.

I pick up the note and unfold it then ran my eyes through the lines:

Hayley,

Sorry we had to leave without saying goodbye. There is a backpack in our room full of weapons and equipment, including a bow and arrow. There is only 10 arrows but with the glove you will have the power to make the arrows come back to you to reuse. There is about 2,000 dollars in the little pocket in the front for you to eat. Unfortunately you will have to go on foot. Stay safe, and if you come across survivors do NOT trust them. They could be infected. In the third pocket there is a watch. But not just a watch. It has the ability for you to scan a human to tell if they're infected or not. There is much more in the backpack you will find. I'm sorry you had to read this and I hope we rendezvous soon in New York City.

Love you,

Mum and dad

Folding the paper, I slip it into my pocket. I quickly run upstairs and gather some clothes. I run to my mum and dad's room opening the closest and sure enough, there was a backpack. I unzip it to find a portable tent, zombie repellant, the watch, desert eagle with 5 boxes of ammo, Special K bars, bow and arrow, grenades, and stun grenades.

Well this should be fun eh?

I take out the bow and arrows and put the arrows on my belt that just happened to be hanging in their closet out in the open. I put my clothes in the backpack and put the backpack on my back. I head outside to the door and stop as I spot a picture of me and mum and dad in the picture frame. I break the frame and put the picture in my pocket. Just in case I never see them again.

Without hesitation I head out the door to the silent neighborhood of Grove Street, New Jersey.

I continue to walk for what seems like hours. Holding my bow and arrow, I hear little whimpers and cries. I walk closer as the whimpers got louder. In front of me I come across a little girl with blonde hair and two ponytails, the ponytails almost falling out. The little girl had her hands in her face and continues to cry. I put my hand on her shoulder.

"What's wrong? Can you tell me your name?" I ask politely.

The little girl looks up, half of her flesh on her skin of her cheek was gone, so you could literally see her jaw. Her left eyeball was missing, and the tip of her nose was missing.

Shocked, I stare at the familiar face, trying not to puke at what I'm looking at right now.

"Katie?"
