Amanda wrapped her arms around her husband's neck, breathing in the scent of him and ran her fingers through his hair. He wound his arms around to her and settled his hands at the small of her back and pressed her against him.
"You're going to make me late if keep touching me like that," he growled into her hair.
"I don't think that you have the stamina for another round," she teased him, pressing herself against him.
She leaned her head back and looked into his dark eyes, and whispered she loved him and then detached herself from him.
He let out a groan and turned to pick up his keys, sending her a smoldering look that gave her a warm sensation in her chest.
"Look at me like that again, and you may get fired today," she said, walking him to the door.
He grinned and pecked her quickly on the forehead and walked out. Amanda watched as he pulled out of the driveway and shut the door when he was out of sight.
Walking down the hallway, her daughters grin peered out at her from pictures that lined the walls. Her heart seized up in the familiar pang of longing and loss and her eyes welled up tears.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled her gaze from the pictures and went into the kitchen and grabbed her coffee mug and left for her appointment.
It had been three years since they had lost Jenny, and at times the grief surged so heavy with each breath that she never felt that she could get enough air in.
The heaviness of her mourning sometimes consumed her, her limbs feeling as heavy as her heart. At times the pain would slam into her, causing her to literally fall to her knees while her body trembled with sobs.
The anniversary of Jenny's death had passed 3 months before and she was struggling to get her life back on track again. Each time the anniversary came around, her life halted; the bond forged from the moment of conception never actually detaches from the psyche.
Staring at her daughters amazing smile and eyes, she drank in every detail of her face and tore herself away and out the door.
She left and drove to her doctor's appointment, and sat in the waiting room patiently waiting to be seen.
Becoming agitated with the noise around her, she grabbed her phone, put in one ear bud and watched videos to amuse herself and drown out the background.
Finally, the nurse called her in and she went through the ritual of being weighed, and snorted at the number that popped up. The nurse raised an eyebrow at her, and led her to the room.
The nurse asked her what she was seeing the doctor for which irritated her, she had the chart in front of her, she knew why Amanda was there.
"I am here to for my annual check-up and to get a refill on my birth control."
The nurse asked the usual questions about any pain or any concerns she had. Amanda shook her head and the nurse took her blood pressure, temperature, and then handed her a paper gown to put on.
Amanda undressed and wrestled with getting the strings tied on the top and on the bottom. Finally she gave up and just pulled the extra space on the gown around her and sat down on the examination table, the paper of the gown and on the table crinkling against each other.
Gazing about the room she read about how her ovaries worked, and a mental image of a shark brain came into her mind, thanks to a Facebook post she saw.
A knock came at the door and she called out for them to come in, and the nurse reappeared.
"I am so sorry Mrs. Kinnley, we needed to get a urine sample from you," she said, holding out a cup to her.
