"Help me!"

Amanda woke with a start, heart pounding as Jenny's cry rang in her ears.

She looked around her and talked away the anxiety that was building up in her chest, she wasn't hearing Jenny, Jenny wasn't here.

Sitting up slowly, she glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost one and her husband would be home shortly. She didn't want to get up, but she didn't want to worry him either when he came home and she was lying about.

She picked up her phone and sent a text to Eric asking when he would be home, and got an immediate response that he would be there in about 15 minutes.

She headed into the kitchen and pulled out lunch meat, tomatoes, avocado and Swiss cheese. Humming to herself, she pulled out her favorite grain bread, and also the bread Eric liked since he hated hers.

Slicing up the tomatoes and lathering the breads with mayo, she made them both a sandwich and contemplated if she wanted chips or soup with hers.

She yawned and stretched out her body while she mulled over what she wanted, and from the corner of her eye, she saw a form run past the doorway into the hallway.

"Eric?" she called out.

She hadn't heard him come in, and if he was here he would have called out to her... or maybe he was going to the bathroom.

"Eric? Are you hungry, I made us some sandwiches?" she asked while walking into the hallway.

She heard a thump coming from her daughter's room, and wondered if he was in her room for some reason.

"Eric?" she called out again, walking slowly to Jenny's room.

The door was ajar, and she pushed it open slowly, peering around the corner as the door widened.

No one was there.

Pushing it opened all the way, she walked in and into a blast of icy cold air.

"Hello?"

"MOMMY!" came a shriek in her ear.

Amanda stumbled sideways, heart thundering and panic seized her chest as she whipped her head around the room.

"Jenny?" she whispered.

"MOMMY!" came the shriek again.

Struggling for air, Amanda slowly turned to look behind her and began to scream as she saw her daughter standing there. Her hair was wet and plastered to her face, her eyes had deep shadows under them, her mouth a bluish white color, and an angry look on her face.

"You killed me.... why did you kill me?" Jenny asked.

Amanda was hyperventilating and couldn't speak, but she shook her head back and forth in denial. She choked on her words, trying to get them out.

"Yes..." whispered her daughter.

She stepped closer to her mother and Amanda scrambled backwards, water dripped onto the floor from her daughter, and she was torn between fear and wanting to hold her and assure her that she did everything she could to save her.

Never had she ever saw Jenny in the 3 years since her passing. And though she willed a moment like this, it was not what she would have wanted.  Her daughter looked angry, she was pale and nothing like the vibrant and happy child she had been.

Jenny took another step towards her mother, and her face distorted into a gaping mouth, her eyes going black.

Amanda couldn't breathe, she suddenly felt like she was choking on water.

Grasping at her throat, she began to cough violently, trying to dislodge what was in her throat. Bending over and putting her hands on her knees, she coughed and gagged as water began to pour out of her mouth and onto the floor. She heard the squishing of water in shoes, and her daughter's feet came into view.

"Why mommy?" the apparition asked.

Amanda fell to her knees, spewing out creek water onto the hardwood floor, and her daughter's form stood over her.

She looked up into Jenny's face and saw her scowling. Her face began to blur out, and Amanda realized that she was passing out, the water had stopped coming out, but she still felt that she couldn't breathe.

Soon all the colors faded into a blur of white and gray's and Amanda slowly slid onto the floor, her daughter's shoes still visible.

As the world began to fade away, she felt coldness on her face and realized her daughter was bending over her, her wet hair touching her cheek.

She tried to move her head away from the wetness dripping onto her, but she felt paralyzed.

"You'll pay," she heard, followed by Jenny's laugh of delight.

Her vision completely blackened and she welcomed the darkness as she passed out.
