Going Back

dJake POV

I had no clue anything like that happened to Ellie, yeah i expected something, this is the apocalypse for crying out loud. But all of that, she deserved none of that. As we walked back I kept thinking how I wished it was me instead of her.

"Jake?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you hear that?"

I stopped for a second a listened. Then I heard it. I heard Clicks and groans coming from the other side of a line of trees. I stopped Ellie and crept forward and looked around a couple trees. Before that point in my life i thought i had seen hell. I thought i had been in it. But seeing the runners and clickers and bloaters all intermingled together in one huge herd was complete and utter hell. There was a prison compound. 2 rows of fence. That's all that held the herd back. There was blood a rotted bodies everywhere. The place itself gave off a stench like no other. I crept back a quite as i possibly could. Once i reached Ellie i gave her a hushed version of what i saw. Then i grabbed her hand and we ran, as fast as possible, back to camp. We reached it in an hour after that.
