Jane and the Guardians: Sword of the Lady

Chapter 13

"Good-bye Albert, we will keep in touch and come see you as soon as we track down the blueprints and my Dad," Jane says out the window as they drive away.

"Where to?" asks Donnie from the driver's seat.

"I don't know, how much gas do we have?" Jane asks with a voice of concern.

"We can always get more, dear," Marie answers with a smile.

"With what money?"

"Ah, you are worried that we have no money. You are the Lady. You have unlimited funds in every bank in the world." Marie explains as if it is the most obvious thing in the world

"Wait a minute," Jane says with a higher pitched voice and leans forward to look Marie in the face in the front passenger seat. "You mean I have as much money as I want?"

"Of course," replies Donnie in his matter-of-fact monotone. "You are the Lady. Why shouldn't you have money?"

"So why were we sleeping in caves in the middle of no where when we first drove here?" Jane asks in disbelieve.

"We thought it was good strategy on your part, staying off the main road and keeping a low profile." Donnie says without any hint of emotion.

"I complained the whole way."

"We knew you were testing us."

Jane laughs and sits up excitedly. "In which case, the strategy now is to hit some stores and do some shopping. The Lady cannot be expected to face her world in such shabby threads."

"Very well, any specific store?" asks Donnie.

"Oh, I don't know. Let's start with all those fancy ones in Manhattan. And then we're going to have a nice dinner and a good night of sleep at some swanky hotel. The Lady needs a little pampering before she starts balancing the world."

"Sounds good to me," Jack echoes the sentiment and holds her hand a little tighter.

As the car continues down the street, a woman waves good-bye to thefoursome. "Well done, mygirl. Well done. I told you, you would figure it out. Now enjoy the adventure." She smiles and fades into thin air.
