Pride was a cute kitten. Don't get me wrong, she was adorable and I love her. But when we returned to the house after a Saturday night date, and the furniture was scratched and torn, it was the last straw. She had already dyed the carpet with Jamie's hair dye. I felt my anger boil over, and I heard my voice shouting at her scared face. I heard myself giving her an ultimatum. Me or the cat. She looked horrified at this angry side of me and conflicted about what I'd said.
She just stared at me for a bit, her eyes welling up but remaining locked with mine. I looked at her eyes too, and felt my anger melt away. Her face began to pale, and her eyes rolled back. She fell to the floor, unconscious.
I ran to her. I fell to the floor and held her tight. "Jamie! Wake up! Jamie! Please!!" I panicked, jumped up and ran to the phone, dialled 911 and waited for an answer. I have my details, fighting back chokes of tears. I ran back to her and held her right to me.
It was only a few minutes before a knock on the door made me get up and open it. It was the paramedics. I pointed to Jamie and they came in, moving her on to a board for them to carry. I stood there and spoke to her the whole time.
"Scuse me miss, only family allowed in the ambulance" The man said to me when I tried to get in the vehicle. "Please, I'm her Girlfriend. She needs me" I pleaded. But to no avail. I resolved to drive behind in my little car and wait until she's up for visitors.
After driving to the hospital, I had to wait for hours for her to get out. Eventually a Nurse in purple uniform came through a door and asked for 'Sadie Kane'. I walked up to her, and asked how she was. "Jamie is awake. We've just analysed her blood. It's not good, Miss Kane. She has requested to tell you herself. This way please." She spoke in a monotone voice, I followed her into a hospital room and saw Jamie and ran to her, crying. She held my hand and looked into my eyes and simply said one word: cancer.
