Well thats because all Shadowhunters have a gene in their angel blood where they need a mate to survive. To most Shadowhunters this gene is dormant but to some this gene is very active and to a certain Alec Lightwood this gene is very much active.

Alec will go through the trails of finding his mate and mating with his mate as well.

In this fic Alec is bi and was infatuated with Jace more than having a crush on him due to Jace's blood.
