Needless to say, though I'm going to say it anyway, balls are the work of the most heinous villain to ever grace this world. They exist for one reason and one reason only..... To bore the living stuffings out of people with better things to do. Namely me.
Even as I say this repeatedly to get into someone's thick skull (cough.. Ceren), as a queen though someone would try to adamantly say princess until marriage (cough.. Ceren), I am first and foremost a girl. And think that certain person is part female themselves for my dress in utterly gorgeous. It's a slight pale pale green that makes my hair and eyes seem endless and more wonderful. This is almost a great distraction to jeep me all merry and gay.
Almost.
As soon as I draw myself close to the magnificent staircase where my sister and I got in trouble for sliding down the railings countless times (What? They just beg for it), I get the sudden urge to run for hills. Of course that's when Ceren shows up to escort me. That no good, punctual son of an ogre. We descended more graceful than I could have ever hoped for. Well, I can't say anything bad about those boring lesson that my mother put me through.... Oops, oh well, they were quite boring. Closing in on the ever long lasting stairway of horror, I saw the people in all of their un-tasteful glory. There were dress styles and hairstyles that even my family, as crazy as they are, wouldn't even dare to dream of. I will spare details as much as I possibly can for no person, not even my worst enemy should have those types of nightmares. I will never in my entire life understand why people like frills, poufs, and baubles in excess. It's beyond me and sounds like ingredients to a spell.
The best part of this entire travesty upon my soul is that my subjects and peers part ways for me. Unlike when I was a child and had to press through the crowd. Every eye is on me as I make journey to my throne on the daises. This throne was one my mother had commissioned from the Orient. It was hand carved with beautiful gold filigree of dragons and magnificent silk. It is considerably smaller than the one in the throne room and for that it is my favorite. It was one that I always was fascinated with and would trace every groove until I completely committed it to memory. Every now and the I go over it for the familiarity. Turning around, everyone bows and curtsies to show their respect towards me. This formality was used by rulers and other royals used to lord their control and power, making their subjects show subservience for long periods of time. It was cruel and was something both sets of my grandparents never took advantage of. My parents followed in their footsteps and I plan on doing the same. After a few seconds I nodded my head and the party commenced. What a terrific joy.
Another formality that I may just get rid of all together is one where everyone comes and is introduced to me at my throne to see all who is here and yada yada yada. It was boring me into an out of body experience. We were finally getting to the last dregs of people. Even though I despise these gatherings, I would rather be on the dance floor than listening to some of these buffoons go on and on. There was only one more person to acknowledge when fanfare started. Oh great. Now I have to deal with Sir Prince or whomever as well as his entourage. Now the fun begins.
The woman in front of me was almost unlike any one person I've ever seen. But she seemed familiar despite her differentiation from the status quo. She was special because she was the only one in all black. No other pigmentation other than her pale skin deviated from this color scheme. Even her hair and eyes followed in line. I know this because she stood right in front of me. As in, my personal bubble was non-existent. She was very ethereal, beautiful even. And her voice. Her voice was like velvet. It when I noticed her voice that I realized she was speaking.
".... Your parents were so dear to me and I remember when we used to play as children. Oh, I'm sorry about what happened to them, and you as a child, what a tragedy. I bet you're still feeling it aren't you?" She said this last piece with a different glint in her eyes.
I couldn't do anything but stare as all of the emotions that I buried deep and don't like to talk about or show to anyone came welling up. I felt panicked because I felt it coming up and showcasing itself in my eyes. Then how long would it take to break down while I was among my constituents? She started to circle me in my chair. Though she was still standing in front of me? It was then that I realized why she looked so familiar. She's my step-aunt. Which means she's using magyck. On me. Fiddlesticks. The illusion that everyone can see is still standing where she was, but only I could see that it wasn't perfect. It looked sort of like a ghost and I could sort of see through it.
Mumbling her wicked spell, I couldn't move at all. God's thumb! Why does it have to be our family that has to have the crazy put upon us in hordes. There was a tugging I felt on the inside of me. Oh no. My sister decided to come anyway! No no no nonononono! That's why there was extra fanfare! I see her coming in as the illusion moves over pretending to be a living person. She's heavy with child and her husband looks like a besotted fool in love. They are so beautiful it makes me nauseous. Right behind her is Prince.... Finn! That's his name. I remember seeing him when I was younger, he used to be a page boy to my fathers best knight at one point. When our eyes met everything went black.
