I admit, a few months ago, if you told me that I'd be taking down bad guys? Wait, scratch that. Super-powered bad guys? I would have surely called you out of your mind. But I've witnessed it with my very own eyes. And let me tell you, it's not your average ordinary job. There's a lot of hard work, because with great power comes great responsibility.
Ah, who am I kidding? I read that in a comic book somewhere. Truth be told, it's the greatest thing that ever happened to me. The thrill of the hunt, and the powers. Man, let me tell you about the powers. Before them? I was Andrew Mills, a rather knuckle headed teenager and recruit for Checkmate. I was practically a nobody. In all trueness to the word.
Adoptive son of Alexander Mills, so I received absolutely no special treatment. I know, right? It sucked pretty bad. But I didn't give up. If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I never give in. I guess I learned how to fight at least, to an extent. My mind was never into what my father wanted for me. He checked out of trying to love me, from the moment my mother passed.
All he ever saw there on out was a soldier. Because all dear ol' dad cares about is making the world a better place. He had this thing he always used to say to me. "Make a better way for tomorrow", he said. And I'd sit there pretending to listen, but at the end of the day, I didn't care. He wasn't my real father, and I didn't even know him. A bastard on all fronts.
I was the worst recruit to his cause, I never listened to a thing. I guess that's for the better, otherwise I'd never have these powers. Running in head first, during Rebirth, after being ordered not to. Yeah, I was pretty balls to walls. And now I'm here, kneeling in the back of a stranger danger van.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm most definitely apart of a covert ops group. It's a small task force, of powered individuals like myself. There's five of us to be exact. I'd like to consider myself leader, although I'd be telling a lie. That honor goes to the guy on my left. His name is Charles Moretti. Everybody loved him, and what's not to love? He's this six foot three blonde haired Adonis. He's just turned twenty one, so that means drinks on him.
And get this, his powers are of the mind variety. He's a telepath, total Professor X. Only, he can walk. And there's a whole lot of creepiness that comes with his thing. In the driver seat, we have our muscle. Dude's a half growl, half scowl kind of guy. He's also got his beard going on. Much more taller than Charlie boy, ranging in the six foot six area. Way older, about thirty three. Full of a muscle, which I can only assume derived from prison.
We like to call him Marcus North, and he's a real big bad wolf. I say that, because he literally grows claws during fights. He's super strong, insanely fast, and he heals entirely too fast. Also, I heard he could talk to animals. He's very aggressive, and I don't think he likes me too much. Which makes me want to bother him that much more. Call me petty, I don't know.
On my right, is Sylver Moon, I'm not one hundred percent sure that's her real name. But it's all she's ever told me. Despite her age, and she's only a year older than me. Her hair bright as the sun, orangeish red it appeared. Her abilities are connected to the past, present, and future. She's a precog, but it never happens at will. Sometimes she gets visions in a dream. Other times it's right when I'm about to watch The Walking Dead. Buzzkill!
Then there's the guy in the passenger seat. All he does is smoke cigarettes and play with knives. Very creepy, but he's apart of the team. Harland Gray, a five foot, short haired young adult. Black hair, black lungs, and he's the same age as me. Word is he jumped from foster home to foster home. His power, uh, has something to with smoke? I don't know. Every time I turn around, he's turning into a cloud of smoke and getting in hard to get places.
His worst enemy is a fan, or an air filter. I'm hilarious, I know. But that's our pretty little team. Well, and then there's me. Eighteen, medium length dirty blonde hair. The guy on the team who can literally go anywhere, get in anywhere. My power is pretty simple to comprehend. I can teleport! Well, so far I can teleport about two blocks. My ranger is increasing, because I was only able to go about five feet when I first started.
