The white wolf lifted it's head to watch as the storm clouds gathered. It could feel that tonight would be a new moon. The boy her father had found shuffled behind her and she turned, looking at him. He looked back at her, his eyes wide. She didnt understand why he found her so incredible, but she didnt really care. The rain continued to pour down all day. A few of the more agile wolves went out about midday to catch some lunch and returned with baby buck. The wolves tore at it easily, and she realised the boy looked slightly disgusted while also fascinated. She padded over, tearing some off and took it back to him. She dropped it in his lap and sat down, waiting. The boy looked at her in confusion, then carefully picked the meat up. He took a tiny bite, then made a face and threw it in the air. One of the younger wolves jumped up and snapped it up, swallowing it whole.

The boy turned away as they continued to tear at the carcass, watching the rain fall. As it began to get darker, the white wolf stood up and padded out into the rain, heading towards her personal cave. The boy, obviously unsure whether to be left alone, followed her out hesitantly. She lay down in her cave, closing her eyes to wait for the moonless night to pass. The boy sat next to her, huddling close to her in an attempt to keep warm.

As the sun set and the moon rose, the wolf felt her body begin to change. It grew longer, her legs and arms adjusting. Her claws and paws vanished, turning into hands and feet. Her snout shrunk so that it was a human nose. She sat up, checking herself over to make sure everything was alright, then looked at the boy. He was staring at her, backing away slightly. She cocked her head to the side, then attempted to speak using the language she had learnt from the humans briefly. On her first few attempts, it came out as snuffles or whines, but eventually she managed, "What wrong?" The boy looked surprised. "You're a girl," he said. The wolf attempted to smile, widening her mouth and turning them up at the corners, but it just seemed to freak him out more, so she stopped. "Me sleep," she murmured, curling up so that she used her tail as a pillow.
