The two of them spent the next few weeks heading back. It took them two months, meaning that Lupa became human twice more, because they were taking the time to get to know each other better now that they could communicate. Lupa began to teach Kyle more about the wolves, how they thought, hunted and how different ways of moving parts of a wolf's body could imply a whole different meaning. "I didnt know being a wolf was so complicated," Kyle said one day.
'To us, it is natural. Your language may be more simple, but ours is more effective.'
"Why do you howl or yap or anything then?"
'A yap may be to get someone's attention. A howl, on the other hand, is when we feel lonely or if we wish to tell others how we feel. A wolf will always respond to such a call, as you witnessed at our joining.'
"Joining? What do you mean?"
'Didnt you realise? When we touched, paw with hand, we became mates. You humans call this..um..engagement?' Kyle came a stop and stared at her.
"WE'RE ENGAGED?!" he cried.
'So that was the right word? I see. Then yes, we are engaged.'
"B-But i'm human and you're a wolf!"
'Half wolf actually. As are you now.'
"I havent changed forms though. I mean, sure, that black wolf went inside me, but if i was a were-wolf, wouldnt i have changed?" Lupa frowned.
'That is a point. Unless..' She trailed off, thinking then looked at him. 'My instincts tell me that because you weren't born this way, you may be able to control when you change. Try concentrating upon the form of the wolf and imagining how it felt.' Kyle looked at her skeptically, then shrugged. He brought up the image of the wolf from him memories and focused on it, imagining how it would feel to do the things a wolf could do.
