The next couple of months were uneventful. They worked and got together when their schedules allowed. Due to Brian's increasing fame it was getting harder for him to go out in public without being noticed. Because of this most of their dates were either at her place or his. Their time together was scarce and he wanted to focus all of his attention on her.
Filming on the current season of his tv show was coming to a close. He had told Melanie there would be wrap party the following week.
The night of the party Brian picked her up at 7:30. She was wearing a white and purple floral sundress and white sandals.
"You look beautiful," he said before giving her a kiss.
"You always say that."
"Because it's true."
When they arrived at the party all the guys were there except Sal, who showed up almost 30 minutes later. They got drinks from the bar and mingled, Brian introducing her to the crew. And his parents. This was her first time meeting them. He had told her they would be there, but she had forgotten.
"Mom, Pop, this is Melanie." She held out her hand to shake theirs.
"It's nice to meet you," she said.
"Nice to meet you. Brian has told us so much about you," Mrs. Quinn said. Melanie felt her face flush.
"Uh oh," she said, with a laugh.
"Don't worry, he's only had positive things to say," she said with a smile. "You're a nurse?"
"Yes, in the ER at Lenox Hill."
"I've told Brian to stay out of those places. But it looks like things worked out for him this time."
"Aw...thank you. That's very sweet of you to say."
They hung around talking with Brian's parents for a few minutes then headed back to the bar.
"They like you," he said to her.
"How do you know that?"
"I just know. I've known them my entire life. I know how to read them."
"Well they seem very sweet."
"Yeah, they're good people."
James wandered up to the bar and ordered two drinks.
"Where's your date?" Brian asked him.
"Bathroom. Are you having a good time?" he asked, turning to Melanie.
"Yes. I've never been to anything like this before. Obviously," she added with a laugh.
"Well I'm glad you could make it."
"Bro, I'm right here. Stop hitting on my girlfriend."
A tinge of pink ran across James' face. "I'm not hitting on her. Calm down. See ya later," he said to Melanie.
"I'm gonna go to the restroom. Be right back," she said to Brian.
As she made her way she realized she was a little more tipsy than she thought. Just as she was about to go in she felt a hand on her upper arm. It startled her. She turned around to see it was Brian.
