It was late morning when they were awakened to the sound of loud pounding on the door. They were both naked except for their underwear and they were burrowed under the covers.
"What is that?" Melanie asked him, her head still in a fog and pounding.
"Housekeeping," they heard someone say from the other side of the door. Brian got up and went to the door.
"No thanks," he said, opening and closing the door quickly. He went to the bathroom before sliding back into bed.
"Does your head hurt as much as mine?" she asked moving over to lay with him.
"Yeah, it does." He kissed the top of her head. With that they both fell back asleep, not waking until hours later.
He was up first, mouth dry, and head sore. The headache was gone but his head felt heavy. She was still curled up with him, one arm and one leg draped over him.
He kissed her forehead and lightly ran his fingers along her arm. He laid there, trying to remember last night. He remembered how beautiful she had looked and he remembered dinner and going to the bar. After that his mind was blank.
She stirred beside him, stretching and yawning. She looked up at him, her mouth tasting like a dumpster.
"Good morning," she said, kissing his chest.
"Hey. How do you feel?"
"Better than I did earlier but still like I've been run over. What about you?"
"Pretty much the same. And I'm starving."
"Me, too. Can we order room service?" she asked.
"Absolutely."
"Good. I want pancakes. And bacon. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go power wash my mouth," she said, getting up and heading to the bathroom. He chuckled as he reached up to turn the light on.
When she came out of the bathroom she was fresh faced, having washed off the make up from the night before, and wearing a t-shirt. He was laying on his back, propped up on pillows, one arm behind his head.
She plopped down on the bed next to him. "So how much of last night do you remember?" she asked.
"Most of it. I remember going to that bar but things get hazy after that. I have no idea how long we were there or how much we drank."
"Neither do I. I only vaguely remember going there. I do remember it was really loud."
"Yeah, that it was," he said. "I don't even know how we got back here. I assume we took a cab but I have no memory of it whatsoever."
Just then there was a knock on the door. Brian got up and answered it. He signed the bill and gave a tip before wheeling the cart of food into the room.
She grabbed the remote and said "Let's watch a movie." She clicked on the tv and found a list of PPV movies. They settled on Stepbrothers, one of her favorites.
When the movie was over he wheeled the cart out into the hallway. He returned to the bed and snuggled up next to her, laying his head on her chest. She ran a hand through his hair.
"Thanks for dinner," she said.
"Feel better?"
"Yeah, that helped."
"Wanna watch another movie?"
"Whatever you want to do. I just want to lay here with you." He scrolled through the movies stopping on a movie she had never seen before. She didn't care. She was comfortable and content. She closed her eyes and drifted off, waking up several hours later, with Brian sleeping next to her, the remote in his hand. She took it from him and clicked off the tv.
The sudden darkness seemed to startle him."What happened?" he asked sleepily. She chuckled.
"I turned the tv off. Go back to sleep."
He sidled up next to her, kissed her on the cheek and threw an arm over her. She drew the covers up over them and fell back asleep.
They had one day left in Florida and Brian wanted to make the most of it. He woke early, having slept so much the day before. He got up and showered, deciding he would let her sleep as long as she wanted. If she wasn't up by the time he was dressed he would go downstairs and read.
When he came out of the bathroom he found her face down on the bed. She was clearly still asleep. He wrote her a note and put it on his pillow. He grabbed a book from his luggage and headed downstairs.
She came downstairs less than two hours later to find him sitting at a table in the hotel cafe. She sat down across from him and said "Do you come here often?" He looked up and smiled at her.
"Well good morning sunshine. How do you feel?"
"Fantastic. You?"
"I feel good. Do you want to get out and have some fun today?"
"Absolutely. What do you have in mind?" she asked.
"I rented us a boat for the day."
"Really? Who's going to steer it?"
"I am. I used to have a boat," he said.
"You did? Well aren't you just full of surprises. When are we heading out?"
"We're supposed to be there at eleven. So we have time to eat then get changed."
"Did you eat?" she asked.
"No, I was waiting for you. Are you ready?"
"Yes."
They headed out of the hotel and walked two blocks to a restaurant. Once they finished they went back to the hotel to change into their bathing suits.
"Do we need to bring anything with us, like food or drinks?" she asked him in the cab ride to the marina.
"Nope. That's already been taken care of. I told him what we wanted and he makes sure the boat is stocked."
When they arrived at the marina they made their way to the dock and met with the guy renting the boat. He was a very friendly older man, most likely retired. They boarded the boat and he showed them where everything was. He handed Brian the keys and disembarked.
"Ready to get this party started?" he smiled at her.
"Yeah, let's go Captain."
He started the boat and they headed out, both excited for the day ahead. She stood behind him and put her hands around his waist.
