When she woke again Melanie glanced at the clock, seeing it was almost 2:30. Her movement caused Brian to stir.
"Where are you going?" he asked, reaching out a hand to find her but not opening his eyes.
"Nowhere," she replied. "Just checking the time."
"What time is it?" he asked opening his eyes and leaning up onto an elbow. She gave him the time and he groaned.
"What's wrong?" she asked with a puzzled look on her face.
"Sal," he said. "I have his car. He's probably called and texted me 1000 times. Could you please get my phone for me? It's in my jeans pocket."
"Absolutely," she said, putting her robe on again and heading into the other room. She handed him the phone and he immediately let out a sigh.
"Yep, he's in full on panic mode. I need to call him. Do you mind?"
"Not at all. I'll clean up while you do that," she said, getting up and grabbing the tray.
"Where are you?" Sal answered. "I've been calling you all day."
"Calm down. I'm fine. Your car is fine. I've been sleeping."
"All day?"
"Well, I was up earlier for a little bit, but then fell back asleep."
"Where are you?"
"At Melanie's," Brian said.
"That nurse?"
"Yep. That's the one."
"That was fast."
"Hey, we hit it off. What can I say?"
"Well when are you dropping off my car?" Sal asked.
"I'll get dressed now and head over. I'm in Brooklyn."
"Ok."
When she came back he was sitting on the side of the bed, massaging the back of his neck.
"Everything ok?" she asked.
"Yeah, but I need to get going. Sal wants his car back."
"Ok. I'll go get your clothes."
"I can do that," he said. "I really need to take a leak."
"You need your other crutch." She left and came back with his clothes and handed him the crutches. "I'll take these to the bathroom for you."
When he came out of the bathroom he found her sitting on the couch petting Max. He came over and sat on the other side of the cat.
"I need to get an Uber," he said, pulling up the app on his phone. "Less than five minutes. Oh wait! What about your car?"
"I'll get a friend to drive me over later. I don't need it for anything today." Lily leapt onto the couch on the other side of Brian and immediately began to rub against him, purring loudly. "She really likes you."
He smiled as he stroked her back. "I have to go sweet girl," he said, picking her up and kissing her head. "Hopefully I'll see you again."
At those words he looked at Melanie. She wasn't sure what to say. She thought this was going to be a one night stand. She was adamant that she didn't want to get hurt again but she felt herself drawn to him. She wanted to see him again.
"Uh, sure," she stammered. "If you want."
"Well, I'd really love to take you out on a real date. I won't be working again until next Monday, so any night you're free works for me."
She got up and grabbed her purse. She took her phone out and scrolled through the calendar, checking her work schedule.
"I'm off again on Saturday, so how about Friday night?"
"Sounds great," he said, getting to his feet. "I'll call you and we can work out the details." He glanced down at his phone. "Uber is about a minute out. I should head down."
Melanie got up and followed him to the door. He turned to face her. He reached over and tucked her hair behind her ear.
"I had a fantastic time. I can't wait to see you again."
"So did I. You really know how to please a woman," she said with a wink and a smile.
She grabbed the collar of his coat and pulled him in for a kiss. She didn't want to let him go.
He eventually pulled away, resting his forehead against hers, and groaned. He pulled her into a hug then reached for the door knob.
"Talk to you soon," he said, looking back and giving her one last quick kiss.
And with that he was out the door, making his way to the elevator.
She closed the door and locked it, then turned her back and leaned on it. She was filled with conflicting emotions and needed to discuss it. She got her phone and called her friend Emma. She told Emma she needed a ride to pick up her car and to talk, and asked if she was free to go to dinner. Emma said she was and told Melanie she would pick her up at 5:00.
Melanie went to take a shower and when she got out of the tub she noticed she had received a text. Pulling it up she saw it was from Brian.
I just wanted to thank you again for a wonderful night. I promise the next time will be even better. - B
She sighed, wondering how he could possibly accomplish that. He had already proven himself to be a very generous lover. She put the phone down and tried to put him out of her mind. She needed to get ready and he would be the main topic of conversation soon enough.
