Anton nudged her slightly and Lexie opened her eyes, smiling up at him. “Hello there, stranger.” She whispered softly. He smiled down at her and they exited the car. Anton led the way into the townhouse and down a hall to a room lined with books.

There were a few men in the room, one that was sitting down and looked important while two others that looked like body guards flanked his sides.

“Little one, this is the Prime Minister of England, Stefan Rockwell. Take a seat.” Anton pointed her to a sofa chair and she sat wordlessly. He took a seat across from her and unbuttoned his suit jacket. Lexie tried to meet eyes with him but he would not look at her, instead choosing to make small talk with the prime minister.

Another man whisked into the room with a briefcase in hand and began to set up at the nearby mahogany desk. Lexie’s hands were becoming cold, something that happened when she got nervous. She suddenly felt like this was really what she had been sent for and that everything before that had just been the fluff to get her ready. She was not feeling as nervous as she felt earlier and she thought it had something to do with the oxycodone Anton had given to her.

After a nod from the man behind the desk, Anton finally looked her in the eye and began talking. “Mr. Rockwell has been looking for a public escort to pose as his wife. After much discussion, we have agreed that you would make the best match. You complement him well and you have the sophisticated look he has been searching for.” He spoke all this like he was reciting something monotonous. Lexie let out a little giggle.

“Well that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’ll do it.”

Anton just stared out her, dumbfounded. He had expected a struggle, certainly, not such an easy agreement. “We have to go over all the rules and fine print first before you make such a rash decision.”

She waved a hand at him. “Don’t bother. I’ll do it.” She looked over at the prime minister. “When do I start?”

Rockwell’s mouth moved into somewhat of a smile before saying, “Today, actually. I know that’s not we discussed, sir, but I would like to be seen with her in public at the event I am hosting tonight.” He looked over at Anton to gauge his reaction. Anton only scraped his hand over his chin and gave a brisk nod.

“Very well, Rockwell. Let’s make this official. You and your attorney can go over the logistics with her once she is safely in your care.”

Anton stood up and walked over to the man at the desk who Lexie now figured was one of Anton’s attorneys.  “Come and sign this, Lexie. This is just the broad agreement portion. You’ll go over the specifics later and sign that portion as well.”

She walked over and stood next to him, looked at him for a split second before bending and signing her name with a flourish. Lexie. She held herself together for his sake, wanting him to think of her as brave and obedient. All she wanted was his approval. But when she looked back at him, she only saw a storm of thoughts swirling and she had no idea what they meant.
