The entire school day passed in a quick blur with absolutely nothing interesting to think about. Besides the new boys.

After the last bell rang, I followed Diana and Sara to the Math department, where we swiftly completed our revision for future exams. Sara offered both Diana and I for a ride as we gladly accepted and headed out of the, nearly, deserted school.

During the ride home, the three of us caught up with each other and chattered about unnecessary topics, mostly with Sara fan girling over the new boys and how 'extremely hot' they were. Arriving at my average sized house, I climbed out and bid my goodbyes to Diana and Sara hastily heading inside, to escape from the shivering, cold atmosphere.

I unlocked the brown door, and took a rapid step inside and calling out to my Father.

"Pa! I'm home." I walked into the kitchen, to see my unorganised dad, running around frantically, while cooking the dishes. Unknowingly I smiled at how independently my father worked day and night to keep everything under control.

"Good afternoon Clay! How was your," he paused to take a few plates out of the cupboard, before placing them on the counter, "day? I made your favourite dish, by the way!" He grinned at me with the last statement, only leaving me laughing at him.

"Pa, I had a great day, as usual. And the dish looks amazing. By the way, great work with the rhyming, you're definitely improving." I walked further into the kitchen and gave him a thumbs up. The chuckle that escaped from his lips, echoed through the room as silence followed.

My eyes gazed around the messy, uncleared kitchen and, unfortunately, landed on the magazine lying in the corner, beside the microwave. My fists clenched as I saw the picture on it. Acknowledging the tension in the air, my fathers eyes followed mine and widened, seconds later.

I shakily let go of a ragged breath, that I had been holding for more than necessary, and looked at my dad. "Clay...I just found it lying around and took a quick look, but honestly, I didn't mean to leave it ther-" looking at his miserable expression, I cut him off.

"Pa. There's no need to explain. Let's forget this. Forget her at least. We have nothing to do with her anymore." I said in a low whisper voice. Seconds passed as well as awkward silence. None of us spoke, and only stood there gazing numbly at the floor until my father broke the quietness.

"Did Fay attend school today? I heard she was ill and came up with something."

"How do you know she's ill? And yes I saw her in school and she was perfectly fine." Realisation came to him as he stuttered with his words.

"I-I saw Susan, her maid, while I was grocery shopping, and the minute she saw me, she ended up telling me the Fay was feeling bad." Pa finished off, breathlessly.

My teeth gritted and my nails dug deeper into the skin of my hands. I was normally a carefree, person that never reacted to any nasty behaviour. Whether anyone emotionally or physically hurt me, I wouldn't retaliate nor run away. I would face it, with a smile and let it pass by me like wind. Nothing caused me to boil with anger. I mean nothing... But this subject.

Does Pa think he's doing a good job talking about her as if nothing's happened?! My subconscious carelessly screamed in my head.

Did he? Did he really enjoy watching me suffer? Did he like seeing my bruised heart crush when all of her words came out?

No.

I couldn't help but let jealousy overwhelm me at how worried he was for both of them, despite what they did. However, this was my father. The generous, kind-hearted man that willingly took care of me when everybody left. For eight years, he's treated me as if the most important person in his life. Sacrificed his every second to be with me when I needed him. I couldn't hate him or let my fury take over me. I know for a fact he missed both for them, whether they were gone or not.

I hated this side of me. I was utterly disgusted with it. Everyone thought of me as the nerd who never listened to what people had to say. But little did they know I was one jealous, mean, selfish person.

I sighed and mentally face palmed myself for acting so disrespectfully towards my father. "Okay...I'm sorry Pa, for being that way. You know it's a topic I hate mentioning but please don't be mad with me." I offered him my sheepish, sad smile, dropping my head in disappointment and closing my eyes.

Unexpectedly, I was pulled into a tight embrace, with long, muscly arms wrapping around my shoulders. Without sparing a second, I brought my arms around my fathers torso and hugged him back with as much love.

"Claya, have I ever told you that even if they ever do come back, you'll still be my number one no matter what? And if you want me to forget them then I will darling because I love you more than anything in this world Clay." My fathers words touched my heart and brought a genuine, content smile to my glum face.

"Thank you Pa. And have I ever told you that I love you more than anything in the world too because you're my father and I'm your daughter." I heard him chuckle, meaning the previous conversation had thankfully been pushed aside. For now.

After changing, eating, talking and cleaning, I was sat comfortably on my bed, with numerous amount of homework sheets, owned my different students, scattered disorderly around me, like litter.

When I was a sophomore, the entire class were given an exam that was apparently 'impossible to even achieve a B on'. As a result, the students were dreading it and barely put in effort, however it turned out that my overall result was an A. Even though being dissatisfied with my grade, seeing Pa's contagiously, enthusiastic and proud face, I brushed off the feeling and couldn't help but show off. Unluckily, the news spread like a deadly, infectious disease within Mulberrington High and soon after, I was known as the smartest, most conceited nerd in school.

This wasn't only an advantage for students to bully me, but nevertheless to use me as their homework/exam/cheating tool. Every week, I approximately received 8 pieces of work from different students and I always had a deadline for each one.

Some people only show sweetness and tolerance out of the pity they feel for me, which I don't appreciate, but don't show. Some are unsurprisingly inhumane and unthoughtful creatures that have no hearts. Those are the people that led me to who I was now.

The pitiful, shattered girl, who's believable lies and untold secrets are disguised with an, assuringly mocked smile.

I shook my head violently, as my long black curls followed and bounced around. I put my face in my hands and groaned in frustration. I needed to get the work done.

Presumably, hours later everything was finished and seeing as my father hadn't checked up on me, he must've dozed off on the couch while watching television.

My eyes were droopy and begging for sleep, as I took a small peep at the clock and it read 2:14 AM, just before my head lazily dropped on the graciously, fluffy pillow and my eyes closed.
