Chapter 26

Spencer P.O.V.

You were hesitant to go in the tall abandoned building. It had wooded boards that blocked the path through the front entrance, windows were boarded, and vines slid up the building like snakes. Even the night sky loomed over the building giving a dark shadowy look that you see in horror movies. Just where is the lightening effect?

“Go on Spencer,” Rebecca ordered, “Use your axe,”

“Can we just go through somewhere else?” you asked, nervously.

“Come on dude,” Dave stated, “Break the door down and we will be out of here faster than Bec’s running,”

You tightened your grip around the axe and your breath was shaking. You hit the wood with the axe repeatedly as the others stood behind you.  Wood chippings flew in the air by each pull of the handle.
Once you were done, Dave kicked the door down making a puff of dust fly up in the air making everyone cough.

You looked around the building that had cobwebs, desks that were covered with dusty worn blankets, and gave you an eerie feeling.

The floorboards creaked by each step everyone took. Then, the second floor’s floorboards started to creak as well. Everyone froze in his or her paths. Rebecca stared at you raising a brow and looked up, taking out her sword from her lappack very quietly. Dave tapped her shoulder and pointed up then nodding his head towards the stairwell. She nodded her head and looked back at you. She winked and followed Dave up the stairs. You had no idea what to do, Rebecca is going upstairs, and the others were still down with you.  You were sadly scared.

“This way,” Rose whispered, leading the group up a stairway that seemed to lead to the roof.
You and everyone else looked amazed at the spirograph glowing above you.
Its rings spun with the others, intertwining with each other like interlocking hands. The glow of lime and yellow attracted everyone, giving each person the tint of freedom.

You saw the whole city on the rooftop, a soft breeze ruffled your hair, and the nostalgia flowed through your veins, as you looked straight into Houston Downtown.
“I want to go home,” you mumbled, “Why can’t I just go home?”

Jade laid a hand on your shoulder, “Home is gone Spencer, you have us. Don’t worry, your medium may be the greatest home you’ll ever have,” she smiled, giving your stomach a warm fuzzy feeling.

You nodded your head slowly then looked back at the scenery with both your hair and Jade’s dancing with the breeze. You looked at her in the corner of your eye. Yes, she was a tad bit taller than you. However, you couldn’t put your finger on it. She had nice big green eyes like yours, a very bright smile that you cannot stop staring at, and her attitude to you was just great. Jade looked slowly at you, which made you look away instantly.

Crap, did she notice?’ you thought.

Then a loud cracking sound echoed around you. You and Jade simultaneously kneeled and covered your heads. You looked up and saw large wings spread out in the evening sky, wooden floorboards flying, and a Rebecca wrapped around it’s back.

“Everyone get out of here!” she yelled maddeningly.

Dave leaped up from the hole and landed perfectly on the ground. “Everyone! Climb that antenna!” he pointed to a tall radio transmitter. Jade held your wrist, pulled you towards the antennae, and ordered you to climb it.

As you were climbing, you looked down at Rebecca and Jack Noir in the air. He grabbed Rebecca from behind and threw her down at the ground. She landed with a big large thud and with a responding dust cloud. She lied on the ground motionless.

“Rebecca!” you yelled, your eyes furrowed worriedly.

“Hurry Spencer!” Jade told you from underneath.

You closed your eyes tightly shut and looked away, then back at her. “God damn it,” you groaned. You kept climbing the antenna regretting each step you took up.

Jack Noir P.O.V.

You saw the little brat on the floor motionless and presumed she is dead. You slowly descended from the sky and landed on the ground softly. You walked up to her and kicked her slightly to see if she flinched or moved.

Then you noticed her life bar was above her head, it showed a small red orange fill inside of it.

You chuckled and lifted your sword above your head, “Let’s see if you are actually alive,”

Before you could officially stab her to death, the other brat launched at your back and pulled you backwards, yelling; “Get away from her!”

You strangled as the boy was choking you, “Why you little –” you grabbed his arm tightly and swung him around the tossed him across the rooftop. He slid smoothly and stood tall with his legs spread out.
