I had been assigned to be a guard for Lord Xavier, which I happily accepted. And since the head guard seemed to always be getting drunk I got assigned second-in-command. For now at least. Geez, this guy barely knows me and already has me as one of the top guards.

Sighing I looked around, no one seemed to be around my post. Everything was so calm in this village, I liked it. Better than the busy streets of O'khasis. I am so glad I got out of that place, it was like being cooped up in a chicken coop. Well, now I know what being a chicken feels like.

"Hey Laurance!" Lord Xavier called from a few feet away. "Dale got drunk again do you think you can teach the newbie?" He asked.

I nodded and started heading down the ladder of the makeshift guard 'tower' we had. Phoenix Drop wasn't the best village but it sure beat O'khasis on the friendliness scale.

I'm actually a bit surprised we had a newbie, I was the newbie a day ago too. I think his name is Zenix or something. But since Dale is the head guard he had the teach him a few things (like how to shoot a bow and arrow, which might be a bit hard when you're drunk). Sighing I made my way towards the open field. Where we all did our training.

I saw Zenjx there, his slightly rusted chainmail armour giving him away. None of us had really great armour, except maybe Dale. But he would get too hot in the summer since his had cushioning on the inside.

"Zenix!" I called out, cupping my hands over where my mouth would be.

Wow, way to go Laurance.

"Hey! You're the guy who's supposed to be training me since the head guard is sick or something like that. You're Garroth, right?" Zenix asked, making me slightly chuckle.

"My name's actually Laurance," I corrected.

Zenix out his hand behind his head (and helmet) and laughed a bit. "I've always been horrible with names."

"It's fine," I pointed out. Throwing him a sword which (gladly) he caught. "Now let's get on with it how 'bout?"

Zenix nodded and got into a ready stance, leading me to get into one as well. I took a deep breath, letting him start this time. He came at me, his iron sword aiming for my head. I blocked his attack with my sword, right above my head too. If I hadn't had my sword or my helmet I would be dead. I pushed him off and ran at him, trying to aim for his midsection. It was quite easy as well since he left that area the least protected. His sword was to the left and I was aiming for the right. Because why not?

He blocked it with a shield he had somehow picked up with his foot in the time that I had been running. I don't see how he needed training, he seemed to be better at it then Dale. Which is a good thing, for Zenix at least.

I aimed higher, swinging my sword with all my might. Almost hitting him if he hadn't blocked it with the tip of his sword. He went for me now, aiming for my legs. Good tactic, make me fall so I'm vulnerable. I jumped over his blade though, since I knew it was coming. I pushed him with my side, knocking him to the ground and knocking his sword out of his hands. I placed the tip of my sword close to his neck, indicating that I was the victor. He lasted longer than Dale did, I think, Dale was drunk when we spared. So it wasn't that fair but he wanted to do it.

I could both of us breathing, heavy and long. I guess we needed to do this more often. I removed my sword and held out my hand, Zenix took it and I helped him up.

"Thanks," he said in between breaths.

"No problem."

Short chapter but the more exciting things happen soon. I hope you guys enjoyed!
