"Here" referred to the capitol of Sanctuary, simply known as Capitol. Sanctuary covers the entirety of the southern landmass. It is covered in a thick dark forest and surrounded by impassible mountains. There is only one way in and out, a northern path that connects to Council City. The trip would take many weeks by foot.

"I'm in Palpovich," I explained.

It took a few minutes for him to respond. In the intervening time, I stumbled around my lab, trying to get some lights on; I had foolishly deleted all my messages, throwing the room into complete darkness. When the dull light signifying a new message aided my sight, I was too energetic in answering it. I collided with a stray stool and tumbled over it, ultimately crashing hard into the counter. I stayed down on the floor and reached up for my card. It wasn't the only thing on the counter, and a few beakers came crashing down on my head, but I eventually got a hand around it.

"I can send transportation," the message read.

"No!" I responded much too quickly. I cursed loudly as I was unable to stop the message from going through. "No offense," I followed up hastily, misspelling the message three times, "but I despise shadow jumping. I'll charter a caravan or something."

"Suit yourself," came back shortly later; I could practically hear him laughing.

For a few minutes I just sat there, sweeping broken glass out of my way and nursing my leg. I still hadn't gotten any lights on and I couldn't see much. So, when I decided to get up, I got to my feet slowly, and shuffled across the room towards the exit. I was sure I was leaving the place in disarray, but I would have to take care of that when I got back.

Pushing open the door, I was assaulted by blinding sunlight. Even with my eyes closed it was too much. If I had eaten anything in the past few days, I would have thrown up, but instead I was heaving by the door. When the pain subsided and my eyes had adjusted to the light. I took a few weak, tentative steps towards the main road, and promptly turned back; I had forgotten my staff somewhere inside.
