Auklet ducked behind the nearest coral reef, hoping to get out of the sight of the guards. She had been swimming so fast, maybe they hadn't seen her?
"Nice try, sis," Bass appeared by her side, gently bumping her shoulder with his. "You know mother doesn't want me to let you go anywhere."
"Who made you my babysitter? You're the same age as me." Auklet complained, stretching her wings. "I'm almost four years old, I don't need you constantly watching over me." She began swimming up towards the surface.
Bass stomped down on her tail, pulling her back down to the ocean floor. They may be the same age, but he could still toss her around like a piece of kelp. She glared up at him. "Get off."
"I'll make a deal. You stop running off, and I'll convince mom to let me take you to the surface." Her brother smiled broadly at her, lashing his tail proudly as if to brag of his freedom.
"You know that'll never work."
"It might, and if it doesn't, we can always sneak off."
Auklet shuddered. "And try to get past Uncle Shark? No thanks." But she swam after her brother as he neared the surface.
