"I bet you can't beat me in a race, Uncle Vermillion!" Cliff spread his wings and grinned at his companion.

Vermillion looked over at the dragonet, rolling his eyes. The first few times they had raced, he had let the young prince win, but now his nephew could best him even with a head start. "I don't know, the storm might be coming in, and I don't feel comfortable around so much water." The ocean below seemed hungry and cruel, and the stormclouds were getting closer as he spoke.

"You can't catch me!" Cliff sang, flapping his powerful wings, nearing the waves. He brushed the surf with one talon, feeling the cool salt water on his scales. He focused back to racing, jetting ahead easily.

"Slow down!" Vermillion cried, a sinking feeling in his stomach.

In what seemed like a second, lightning shot down from the sky and hit Queen Ruby's precious son right in the face.
