Down A Hole

I hold my breath in fear and freeze for a second.
"Aren't you glad you found him? Are you his daughter? Niece?"
I don't answer back. I just slowly put away my stuff back inside my backpack without lifting my gaze from her.
"Cat bit your tounge? Don't want to answer?" She faked a smile. "Why so shy? Do we frighten you?"
I slowly stand up and so does Link. "We don't have to answer anything." He gives me a quick look and we set off running. We don't hear their footsteps but dare not look back. We run and run, not willing to stop. Without stopping to look, it becomes difficult to spot the red marks I made earlier. The trees become thinner and we speed up. I step on a rock and loose my balance. I was about to fall but Link held me up by the arm and we continued.
Just when I spot a mark and point to it, the ground underneath me collapses and we're both falling. I close my eyes and brace myself for the fall. I gasp as a sharp pain hits my elbow and the upper left half of my body as I hit the ground. Then I hear Link falling right beside me and I quickly move before he falls.
"Ahhhhh!" Link yells in pain as he tries to stand up.
"Are you okay?" I stand up trying to ignore the pain.
"I think." He says cecking his brand new scratches on his arm. "Are you?"
"Uh-huh." I look up and see we're stuck approximately ten, perhaps twelve feet down. For some reason this situation reminds me of the movie The Ring.
"How are we gonna get out?" I ask outloud.
"Don't you have something useful in that bag of yours?"
"I do" I say. "I have a rope, but it's useless unless we can tie it from above."
"Maybe we can climb it?" I make a stupid assumption. The idea seems stupid even to me as I ask it out loud while looking around at the moist dirt. Maybe this was some kind of well.
"That's practically impossible." I look around to see Link dusting himself.
"What do you suggest?" I ask.
"Here." He folds his hands together and opens them slightly. "I'll give you a little push and hopefully you're tall enough to reach the top. Then I'll throw your backpack up. You tie the rope safely and I try to climb out."
"Sounds like a plan."
I walk towards him and take off my backpack. We get in our positions and I place my left foot on his hands and push myself upward. I press my right foot against the wall, then my left and I reach for exit. Hitting the walls, I fail and fall again. Link catches me so I don't hit the ground.
"You alright?" He asks me as I stand up.
"Yes, let's try it once more."
I pull up my jeans and get ready for a second try when I hear from above, the same annoying voice from earlier. "You guys need any help? You seem to have some trouble."
We look up and see those two freaks from before and once again it's the annoying woman making all the sarcastic remarks. For some reason I don't really trust them although a frightened part of me wants to surrender and get help from them. I know their kindness is fake though, and they'll probably murder us the second we're up there.
"Dang it!" Link protests. "How are we gonna get out now with them waiting?"
"We're doomed." I unintentionally say outloud. It's just a matter of time now before they get us out and take us prisoners.
"Doomed" The woman contemplates the word. "Yes, that's very much true, particularly when you're inside a well. There's no where to run now you are like trapped mice in a cage doome for experimantion and death, and you have offended us by being very rude when we were only trying to be friendly."
This lady is driving me nuts. What does she want from us?
"Although," she looks over at her partner wickedly "my friend and I could get you out and maybe we can make an arrangement. What do you say?"
"Why are you asking?" Link snapped. "It's not like we have an option."
"Good point" the woman smiles. "I'm glad you realized."
