Summary
Bridget 'Bree' King is an average 17 year old heading off to college. Though she is excited to be studying in the bustling city of Los Angeles along with her best friend Allie Horan, she is also nervous that moving back to California might unearth the painful memories of her past. Over time she learned how to cope with it by keeping her past a secret from others and guarding her heart from those who tried to get close to her. In Toronto this seemed to work but in LA where everyone is bright and eager to be in the spotlight, Bree finds it hard to find her flow. With her dark hair, pasty skin, boyish clothes and nerdy persona, she finds it even harder to fit in with all the sun-kissed beach bods. Harry Styles is one of these typical Californians. Arrogant, rich, good-looking, athletic flirty type that could get any girl he wants. These are the types of people that Bree ignores and is ignored by. But Harry is different. Harry knows her in ways that no one else does, and this scares Bree. Will she be able to make it in LA? Will she ever fit in? Will she find love? Or will all the walls she spent nearly 7 years building come crumbling down? Bridget 'Bree' King is an average 17 year old heading off to college. Quotes
"What happened next still haunts me to this day. The loud screeching of the tires, the black bike bouncing off the road and onto the side walk, his body in the air, the wind flying through his beautiful brown hair before he landed on the ground, the red puddle that started to form beside his head."
"I knew that fully revisiting that memory would bring all the after-shock back as well, so I decided to store it in a box in the back of my mind and keep it there. I did a pretty good job at doing it too. That is, until I started college and met Harry."
"His face changes. His features soften as he continues to look at me. He leans down, his face inching closer and closer to my own. My heart beat quickens erratically. Is he gonna--"
"I just stare at his innocent yet captivating aqua-green eyes, still immersed in the depth of his words. He stares back, and we just sit there looking at each other in silence, comfortable silence. Silence that I could stay in forever and still die happy."
"We are from two completely different worlds, I conclude. He's rich proper expensive tea while I'm just average black sloppy instant coffee."
"His golden eyes are still locked on mine. In the bright lights, his eyes sparkle and shine, a tint of light golden brown with hints of yellow, even more. They are beautiful. His expression changes as he replies to my confession. "I would never hurt you." It comes out in just a whisper, almost in audible, but it still gets across to my ears. My heart melts as I stare at his captivating majestic wolf-like eyes."
"Next, I take one of the boldest moves I have ever taken in my life. Maybe it's the amount of alcohol pulsing through my veins at the moment, causing my judgment to defer. Or maybe it's the power of the words that come out of his perfect mouth, I don't know. I lean down towards his face in a quick move and plant my lips on his."
"I notice the black ink on his chest. It's in a different language, Arabic maybe. I touch it gently, studying it. It is one of the many tattoos he has, as he has a lot on his forearms. Sure, they can kinda make him look like a bad boy, that and his style and clothes, but Harry has no right to judge him based on his appearance."
"Often, love isn't how all those sappy little romance novels make them out to be. Most people don't marry their Romeo or their Juliet, but just whoever is the most convenient. People who are madly in love with each other at first can end up divorcing years later. The truth is, real and true love, like the ones Shakespeare and Nicholas Sparks write about is just as rare as finding gold."
"Just like gold, your true love is out there somewhere, it's just the matter of looking for it in the right places
