13. Girly Melodrama

The same routine went on for really long time, late night texts and early morning conversations with Dalton.

"Chloe do you like Dalton?"

My mom asked out of nowhere, making me choke on my cereal.

"What are you talking about?"

I said innocently.

"Its evident the dark circles because of your texting and conversations"

"How do you know? I mean its not that"

I knew I was cornered.

"Yes mom. I really like him"

I sighed.

"Is he your boyfriend?"

"Urm... Thats certainly difficult to answer"

She just stared at me to continue.

"We know we like each other but we havent been vocal about it"

"Okay. Take your time. Explore"

She said getting up.

She left for her job while I settled on the sofa flipping channels.

I heard the door bell.

I got up and opened the door to find Avery.

A million thoughts flooded my mind.
the Avery who was my best friend, the Avery who had left me, the Avery with whom I had been on multiple sleepovers, the Avery who had made fun of my condition.

In that moment, i wanted to hug her, kick her, punch her, slap her; but all I did was say "hey"

"Im Avery"

"I know"

"Wouldnt you call me inside?"

"Sure. Come in"

"Look. Im really sorry for what I did"

"I was a kid. I was overcome by the fear of losing you that made me act the way I was. I'm sorry. I'm here to make amends"

"I forgive you"

I knew I had forgiven her long time back with Dalton's help.

"Cool"

She said hugging me.

"I know you dont go to school..."

"I'm home schooled"

"Urm... If you have no problems, would you like to go to a school party with me?"

"I'm really sorry but my health wouldn't allow me so"

I lied.

"Okay I understand. I'm really sorry"

"Dont be"

"Catch you later. Bye"

"Yeah sure. Bye"

I said shutting the door.

I went back to watching TV as if nothing had happened.

"Mom Avery came over"

I said to my parents over the dinner table.

"Thats a pleasant surprise"

"So you ladies caught up on topics?"

My dad asked.

"Nah"

"She just came over to invite me to a party"
