I looked out the window where my blue and white tree house stood against the grey misty sky. The clouds were pregnant with the promise of rain. I loved the rain so much, never knew why but I did. Today I especially loved it because I could snuggle up in my bed and read my latest book. Knock knock.
"I'm coming in!" My mom says as she comes in with a tray of hot chocolate and my favorite white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.
"Here I thought you could use some cheering up, since I won't be here to bake them for a few weeks. Are you alright? I mean with you and Michael, maybe your father and I should just stay..."
"No mom. I'm fine. Ya'll go and have some fun. Even if I'm not I'll have Sam over here to keep me company the whole time you guys are gone."
"Okay."
"Thanks Mom."
She leaves the room and goes to finish packing. I really was so ready for all of them to get put of the house. Mom and Dad were going on a moth long business retreat for my dad's business. Cameron and Steve were going to spent the month with our family in Ohio. I was staying here to help out with things around my church since we sent them on a three week cruise for their anaversary. I had too much to do around here to just take off for a month...besides I needed some spance and quiet. My book got a tad boring and I contemplated going out with my food and a blanket to the tree house. Finally that desire swept over me and I headed that way with my goodies in one hand and a fuzzy blanket in the other.
Apparantly Gabriel had te same idea and greeted me warmly as I crawled into the entrance that faced my window. We had built two new entrances in the small dwelling when Sam and Gabriel moved in. We made it so we could all get in without going too far outside or disturbing one another. I crawled in and got situated and offered him a cookie and he grabbed two.
"Fatty!" I say laughing at him.
"Girl be quiet. I hardly ever get to have cookies!"
"Well okay then."
We sit in silence for a moment then same came crawling in through her little space. I offer her a cookie although I know she hates white chocolate. Of course she declines. Mom called me inside for bed just as the rain was about to fall. I give them both quick hugs and go into the house. Mom and Dad both come in to kiss me goodnight seeing as how they ave to leave to take the boys at four in the morning. I tell them I love them then hop in the bed and focus on not crying over him once again as I let the soft pitter patter of rain lull me to sleep.
