The men were dressed in animal fur coats and had strange markings on their faces. It was meant to be intimidating, but to me it just seemed amusing. I've itching to get into some trouble and these men were willing to permit me some.
In unison they all screamed and charged at us. By reflex I released an arrow and hit someone in the chest. Hiccup lunged at one of Drago's minions with a spear, while ice shot out of Jack's staff, freezing several men. Rapunzel was completely defenseless so I yelled at her to find a weapon, while I reloaded another arrow. She grabbed a sword from one of the men that Hiccup had knocked out and immediately began to attack.
Adrenaline was pumping through every vein in my body. Because of the adrenaline, I was able to move quicker and defend myself better. I've been in several hand-to-hand combats before so I knew exactly what I was doing. I'm guessing Hiccup and Jack had been in fights before too, because they seemed to be doing really well. Rapunzel, though, surprised me. She's never experienced anything like this before but she seemed to be a natural.
We had fought off soldiers for what seemed like forever until they all came to an abrupt stop. A robust man with black messy hair pulled back in a ponytail, came sauntering behind the crowd of men. He had a fur vest similar to Hiccup's, and had those strange tattoo markings on his face. "Hello, Hiccup." the man sneered at Hiccup.
"Eret... not you too." groaned Hiccup.
"I'm hurt Hiccup, I expected a warm welcome. How's your mom-Oh wait..." the man chuckled.
I didn't care who he was, he was already getting on my nerves. I nocked another arrow and pulled back. "Merida, wait!" Hiccup tried.
"Oh, is this your girlfriend? She's cute. Did you get bored with the last one?" he smiled amusedly at me and then at Hiccup. I pulled my arrow back even farther and stepped closer to him with a scowl on my face. "Ooh, she's feisty, I like it." he chuckled as he walked closer to me.
"Get back." I warned. My tone held poison in it, as did my stare.
He put his hands up in surrender but still had an entertained smile. "I'm not here to fight, I'm here to give you a message from my old man. He says that he can't wait to see the pathetic "heroes" he's heard so much about," he paused and scanned us, "I think he's gonna be very disappointed in you guys." he taunted.
Jack tried to sneak up behind him but the man quickly turned around and pinned Jack to the ground. "Nice try, Jack." he gibed as he held Jack down.
All of us exchanged looks, how could he see Jack? Jack said that people could only see him if they believed in him.
He stood up. "Well, I best be on my way. Dad won't be too happy if I were gone for too long. We'll be at the house waiting for you." he said calmly as he walked away.
Hiccup tried to run after him but the man turned around and kicked him, knocking Hiccup to the ground. We all rushed to his side and when we looked up, the man and soldiers had vanished.
"Who was that?" asked Rapunzel.
"That was Eret, Drago's son." Hiccup groaned in pain.
"Drago's son? How do you know him?" Jack questioned.
"He used to be my friend." Hiccup said as he got up from off the ground and held his stomach, where Eret kicked him.
"Wait, you said that Drago's family was killed." I recalled.
"I thought Eret was killed but I guess not."
Jack was deep in thought but broke himself out of the trance and looked at Hiccup. "Earlier, Eret said something about Drago being at the house, what was he talking about?" Jack asked.
