Damian sighed as he walked up to the high school. Being a Freshman of course isn't easy. How would it be? But especially for him. Because of who he is. What he is. He glanced down, fixing his favorite Batman T-shirt and fixed his Marvel SnapBack that he loved so much, matching his book bag with various heroes on it. Was it nerdy? Yes. But he's been called way worse.
He leaned against the wall, watching old friends and apparent upper class-men walk into the school. But as soon as he saw Cameron, he let out a sigh of relief he didn't even know he had. Cameron's mother ran the boarding house where Damian stayed at, and him and Cameron had grown close over eighth grade year, the bond growing so much now they just are known as brothers. Damian Jackson and Cameron Brinkson. Cameron had been the first to know of Damian's status. A transgender. FTM. He was the only one who knew as well as his mother, Sandra, his sister, Marisa, and his little brother, Wade. And well of course the boy's teachers. Damian didn't think he could trust anyone else.
"Do my eyes deceive me? Damian in the flesh!" Cameron laughed, walking up and bumping his best friends shoulder. Damian had been the name he picked he transferred to this school. He was to young to get a name change, but the school knows his real name. Delilah. He shuddered slightly as the name crossed his mind, reminding him of his old life.
"We just saw each other this morning doofus!" Damian laughed, taking out one of his earbuds.
"I know! Sorry! You know I had to get here early for weight lifting." Damian nodded, looking past Cameron and seeing a brunette who looked to be almost a Freshman, but he knew she wasn't. Almost no one moved to St. Hellen. Damian had been the first one in about 5 years. She looked vaguely familiar to him, as if he had seen her at maybe a football game or two. Cameron moved a hand in front of Damian's face as he shook his head.
"I'm sorry what?" He asked, starting to walk into the school.
"I said, finally! High school girls." Damian chuckled at his best friend's antics. Cameron was more girl crazy then Damian by far. Though they both were desirable, Damian rarely dated anyone because of his state.
"Very true! I bet they will all be googly eyed over you." Damian said to his friend as they walked down the hall.
"Bullshit! They all will want you. Mr. Triple Threat!" Cameron pointed out, patting his friends back. It was true, Damian had one of the best singing voices that anyone had heard, he was a great actor, and had been trained in hip hop.
"You think so?" Damian smiled unsurely, rubbing the back of his neck when his eyes fell on the brunette from earlier. Cameron followed his eyes and smirked lightly.
"Know so. And I think maybe Lindsay will think so too you doofus!" He received a questioning look from Nick, and he rolled his eyes. "Her name genius. That brunette you got your eye on. That's her name."
"Oh uh you know her?" Damian asked curiously, repeating the name to himself in his head.
"Marissa talks about her sometimes. Ask her." Damian nodded slightly as the bell rang.
"I gotta go or else I'll be late for drama!" Damian said, walking away from his friend who mumbled a 'Later.' to him. Damian walked into the auditorium, his eyes meeting Lindsay's as soon as he did. She offered him a small smile and he shoved his hands into his pockets. She could tell he was shy and insecure just by one look, but there was something about him. She motioned for him to sit by her as his heart skipped a beat, as he made his way over and sat next to her.
"Hey! I'm Lindsay." She told him, holding out her hand.
"Uh I'm Damian." He replied, shaking her outstretched hand and offering her a smile.
"That's a cool name." She said, pulling back her hand. They both automatically missed the contact.
"Thanks. It was my dads. It's a family name."
"I like it. It's unique."
"So do I." He managed to get out the words before the drama teacher walked in, obviously not wanting to be there by the look on his face. Damian blocked out whatever the teacher was saying, looking at Lindsay out of the corner of his eye.
