With my magnificent bat wings, I glide in the air. No. Pena glides in the air. I haven't heard her since before the take off. I don't bother trying to take my body back, I feel weak, mostly exhausted. I can't fly anyway, if I tried I would crash. So I make sure to memorise everything she does. She makes sure to keep her legs together, and her arms stay stiff on her sides as she stares forward.
Using the will I have left, I hang her head and look down for a moment. I'm high above all buildings. The sun is setting, so I can't tell whether I'm being seen or not.
Eventually my body slows down and descends. I squint my eyes as my nose inhales the disgusting smell of rubbish. My body lands gently between huge piles of garbage. The junkyard.
I feel a tingle on my skin before moving my fingers and legs. I feel so powerful...so hungry. So so hungry. I run my tongue along my teeth and wince in pain when I feel a sting on my tongue. My fangs are in. I press my hair with both my hands, estimating how long it is. I realise it only reaches my mid-back instead of being shoulder length.
I look around the dump. Pena?
I call her a few more times, but get nothing. Its either she's still weak, or our minds have merged, but that can't be. I should be thinking like her, shouldn't I?
The sun set by now and I'm considering what I should do, and where I should go. The underworld? But I don't know how to get there...Death will help me. But how do I contact him? The only other place I can go to is home, and what am I going to say when Avery sees me like this?
I'm a monstrosity.
I look down at my dim shadow and stare at it's wings. After three (or ten) attempts I start flapping them. Then jump. I gasp in surprise when I realise it worked, I'm hovering in the air.
I sigh as I land again. I wish Pena were here to help me...
I try again, and it doesn't stop this time. I attempt flying higher.
"Vanessa."
My whole routine backfires and I find myself on the ground again. Growling, I look around in every direction. "Show yourself!" I bare my fangs. Again my voice doesn't come out normally, it sounds layered. Its me. And something dark.
From out the shadows walks Death. He grins at me. "I see the merge is...going well."
"Change me back!" I demand, stepping towards him.
"I can't," he shrugs. "Its probably time for you to meet someone..." A bright light flashes in his hand before it takes the form of his scythe. He strikes it down and I jump back when a red portal appears. Inside I see hell itself and shiver. He gestures to it. "After you."
So this is how he travels...I think as I step closer and into the portal. I step into that same dining room again before Death appears next to me. The portal vanishes behind us.
Death frowns as he looks around. He mumbles something and walks out of the room. I follow sheepishly behind him, hugging myself. "Where--"
"Shush," he scolds. "I'm looking for the others."
Do they always stay here? In this castle? A door shimmers in the wall and we walk through it before it closes again. I hate this place. Hell. As always, I stay by Death's side as we walk in the underworld. Demons don't glance at me like they used to, instead they cower when they see me.
"She's returned!"
"The lady of pain!"
"She will destroy us all!"
