~Luke~
The angels have a golden room in the palace over the clouds. The palace isn't in Heaven exactly, its in the middle. Its like a limbo, and at the same time its like a resting place. The grim reaper sends souls here sometimes if he's not sure whether it has a good or bad aura. And well. Were the experts of that.
I sit on one side of the table with the others who were in the fight with me. I'm not in my human form yet, but I want to be, these wings can be irritating at times when they're not been used. Angel Gabriel sits alone on the other side, on a higher platform. He's the high council alone, being one of the most trusted angels.
"So there were four? Not three?" Gabriel asks.
We all nod in response.
He leans back into his seat, looking thoughtful. "How long has it been since the death of Pena?" We all glance at each other with worried expressions. Gabriel nods. "She has reincarnated."
"So the four warlords are back..."
"Should we destroy them?"
I flinch at one of the angel's questions. Gabriel sees my reaction and turns to the others. "This meeting will be continued tomorrow. You are all dismissed." Some angels stand and walk out while others fly out. I stand up and follow. "Except for you, Lucas." My shoulders slump as I turn around. The double doors close by themselves behind me. Gabriel flies off his chair and lands in front of me. "I noticed you were hesitant about Angelo's question. Why is that?"
I look down at the shiny floor.
"Did anything happen in Somalia? Look at me Lucas."
I look up and meet his beautiful eyes, pure. More innocent. "I...I think I may know the human form of one of the warlords I attacked. Of Pena..."
"Who is she?"
"Her name is Vanessa, but she looked so different...." I only recognised her when I got a good look of her face, her eyes were red, but I still recognised her. I know my best friend when I see her. We kissed...
What's going to happen next time I see her? 'Hey Vinnie. I'm sorry about shoving you into the concrete and blasting you with that angel toxin dangerous to demons. It won't happen again! Still wanna be my girlfriend?' She was one of my escapes from this crazy life, I was even going to volunteer to be her own guardian angel, just so I could always protect her.
But she's one of them. How could I not have seen that? You can't blame me; she has a pure aura. Gold like any other innocent. Except those nightmares she always had...those shadows she always saw. I saw them too, I was the one that banished them at school, but I couldn't all the time.
Gabriel nods slowly. "You love her." He smiles.
One side of my mouth lifts. "I think I do..."
He nods again. "Lucas..." He turns around and walks to the window where he looks out at the clouds. "Love is a wonderful thing...but they're some things that you just have to let go." He looks at me over his shoulder. "Especially if you're in love with a spawn of satan."
"I know this..." I whisper. Why her out of all people? Why couldn't she just be a fairy, or a dwarf even. Maybe even a goddess. Oh but she is a goddess, the goddess of pain. I'm not in love with Pena, I'm in love with Vanessa...but Vanessa is Pena...
"I won't let my feelings get in the way," I assure Gabriel.
Gabriel just nods and looks out the window again. "You may leave."
